Beyond Success: Pursuing Life of True Significance
Title: Great Standard
Text: 2 Peter 1:3โ11
Historical Context:
The letter was addressed to the Jewish believers. Peter most probably wrote this during his time in prison.
The first letter addresses some external issues involving the church, while the second letter addresses internal issues such as false teaching in 2 Peter 2:1 and moral compromise in verse 10.
So, how should believers respond to Godโs enablement in living a godly life?

"May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord."

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND?
I. You are empowered to live a godly life.
๐ 2 Peter 1:3โ4
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence.
By His precious and very great promises, we may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
โจ God has given us what we need to live a godly life.
II. You are commanded to live a godly life
๐ 2 Peter 1:5โ7
Faith โ Virtue โ Knowledge โ Self-control โ Steadfastness โ Godliness โ Brotherly affection โ Love
"For this very reason, make every effort..."
โค๏ธโ๐ฅ God's grace does not call us to remain the same. We are commanded to make every effort to grow in these qualities.
III. Your life determines your knowledge of our Lord and Savior
๐ 2 Peter 1:8โ9
If these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
๐ญ Our knowledge of Christ should be demonstrated through the way we live.
โฃ YOU ARE COMMANDED TO PERSEVERE IN GODLY LIVING
๐ 2 Peter 1:10โ11
"Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election..."
If we practice these qualities, we will never fall.
For in this way there will be richly provided for us an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The Call to every believer
Every believer must respond in submission to God's power, recognizing that He has granted us all we need to live a godly life.
Therefore, we must diligently pursue moral excellence that demonstrates a true knowledge of our Lord and Savior until we receive the reward of eternal life.

THE GREAT STANDARD
The standard of Christian living is not measured by the standards of the world.
It is measured by Christ.
A Christlike life is not simply about what we professโit is demonstrated in how we live, how we grow, how we persevere, and how we reflect Jesus in our daily lives.

TRUTH:
โA Christlike life is the highest standard of Christian living, demonstrating genuine faith and faithfully preparing us for the promise of eternal life.โ
๐ May we continue to grow in faith, pursue godliness, and live a life that reflects Christโbecause a life of true significance is a life that becomes more and more like Jesus.
