Prayer for Our Bishop

As we conclude our catechetical journey in preparation for the Canonical Installation of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, SThD, DD, as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, we entrust our new shepherd to the loving care and providence of God.

Throughout this series, we have reflected on the ministry of a bishop, the significance of the Church's sacred rites and symbols, and our role as the faithful in supporting our bishop through prayer, communion, and active participation in the life of the Church.

Today, we unite as one Diocese of Bacolod in offering this Prayer for Our Bishop, asking the Good Shepherd to fill Bishop Louie with wisdom, courage, humility, and steadfast faith as he begins his ministry among us. May the Holy Spirit strengthen him to teach the Gospel with conviction, shepherd God's people with charity, and lead our Diocese ever closer to Christ.

As we welcome our new bishop, let us continue to pray for him, walk with him in faith, and work together in building a Church that is united in hope, alive in mission, and rooted in the love of God.

We look forward with joy to the Canonical Installation of our new shepherd. May the Lord who has begun this good work bring it to fulfillment for the good of the Diocese of Bacolod and the glory of His Holy Name.

How Can We Help and Support Our New Bishop?

As we prepare to welcome Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, SThD, DD, as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, we are reminded that the ministry of a bishop is not carried out alone. It is strengthened by the prayers, unity, and active participation of the faithful.

We support our bishop by praying for him, asking the Lord to grant him wisdom, courage, and the grace to shepherd the People of God with fidelity and love.

We support him by promoting unity and communion, walking together as one Church in harmony with our bishop, our priests, religious, and one another.

We support him by witnessing to Christ in our daily lives, living the Gospel with faith, integrity, compassion, and charity in our families, workplaces, schools, and communities.

Finally, we support our bishop by actively participating in the life and mission of the Church through the celebration of the Sacraments, service in our parishes, works of evangelization, and acts of Christian charity.

As one diocesan family, let us welcome our new shepherd with joyful hearts and renew our commitment to building a Church that is united in faith, steadfast in hope, and generous in love.

Important Symbols in the Canonical Installation of a Bishop

As we continue our journey of preparation for the Canonical Installation of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, SThD, DD, as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, we reflect on the sacred signs that express the bishop's communion with the Church and his pastoral mission.

The Apostolic Letter (Papal Bull) is the official document by which the Holy Father appoints a bishop to a particular Church. Its public reading marks the juridical act through which the bishop takes canonical possession of the diocese, manifesting the communion between the local Church and the Successor of St. Peter.

The Cathedral Church, the mother church of the diocese, is the proper place where the bishop's canonical possession and installation take place. It is the center of diocesan worship and unity, housing the cathedra—the bishop's official chair and the principal symbol of his office to teach, sanctify, and govern the People of God.

The Crosier, or pastoral staff, reminds us of Christ the Good Shepherd. As the bishop receives this symbol of pastoral care, he is entrusted with the mission of guiding, protecting, and serving the flock with charity, wisdom, and fidelity.

May this catechesis deepen our appreciation of the rich traditions and sacred symbols of the Church as we prayerfully prepare to welcome our new shepherd.

The Canonical Possession of the Diocese

As we prayerfully prepare for the Canonical Installation of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, SThD, DD, as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, let us deepen our understanding of an important moment in the life of the Church—the Canonical Possession of the Diocese.

Canonical Possession is the juridical act by which a bishop officially assumes the pastoral governance of the particular Church entrusted to him by the Holy Father. Through this act, the bishop begins the full exercise of his ministry of teaching, sanctifying, and governing the faithful of the diocese.

The Code of Canon Law (Canon 382 §3) reminds us that a bishop may not exercise the office entrusted to him before he has taken canonical possession of the diocese. This underscores that episcopal ministry is not merely ceremonial but is exercised in communion with the universal Church and according to her sacred laws.

May this catechesis help us appreciate the beauty and order of the Church's life as we joyfully prepare to welcome our new shepherd. Let us continue to accompany Bishop Louie with our prayers, that the Holy Spirit may guide him in leading the People of God in the Diocese of Bacolod.

📖 Daily Catechetical Series | Day 4

The Episcopal Coat of Arms of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, SThD, DD

Every bishop's coat of arms is more than a heraldic emblem—it is a visual expression of his faith, spirituality, pastoral identity, and episcopal mission.

The Episcopal Coat of Arms of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, reflects the rich foundations of his ministry. Each symbol speaks of his unwavering trust in God's providence, devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dominican spirituality, commitment to Divine Mercy, and his pastoral mission to shepherd the People of God. It also honors the Diocese of Bacolod through symbol of the Cathedral and the province of Negros Occidental.

At the heart of his episcopal ministry is his motto, Confido ("I Trust"), a profound profession of confidence in God's loving guidance and providence.

As we continue our journey of preparation for the Canonical Installation of our new bishop, may this catechesis inspire us to reflect on the deeper meaning of the symbols that express the Church's mission and the ministry entrusted to her shepherds.

Getting to know our Shepherd. ✨

As we joyfully await the Canonical Installation of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines as the Seventh Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, we continue our daily catechetical series with a reflection on the Profile of Bishop Louie P. Galbines.

More than learning the milestones of his life and ministry, we are invited to recognize God's faithful work through the vocation of the one He has called to shepherd our local Church. By knowing our Bishop's journey of faith, service, and pastoral leadership, we deepen our appreciation of the gift of episcopal ministry and strengthen our communion as one diocesan family.

May this catechesis inspire us to welcome our new Bishop with joyful hearts and steadfast prayers as we prepare for this historic moment in the life of our Diocese.

📖 Daily Catechetical Series | Day 2

Who is a Bishop?

As we continue our spiritual preparation for the Canonical Installation of Most Rev. Louie P. Galbines, S.Th.D., as the 7th Bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod, we reflect on the identity and mission of a bishop in the life of the Church.

A bishop is the successor of the Apostles, entrusted by the Holy Spirit to shepherd God's people. As the pastor of a diocese, he exercises the threefold office of teaching, sanctifying, and governing, faithfully leading the People of God in communion with the Church. Above all, he is called to be a father and servant, reflecting the love and care of Christ, the Good Shepherd.

May this catechesis deepen our appreciation of the episcopal ministry and prepare our hearts to joyfully welcome our new shepherd.

Let us continue to pray for Bishop Louie P. Galbines, that the Lord may strengthen him with wisdom, courage, and pastoral charity as he begins his ministry in the Diocese of Bacolod.

The Diocesan Summer Catechetical Institute concluded its month-long formation program under the Diocesan Commission on Catechesis on June 30, 2026, at the St. John Marie Vianney Shrine in Silay City.

This year, the Institute celebrated 14 graduates from the IESIANS Class, who completed the four-year catechetical formation program.

Guided by their class verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13), the graduates persevered through challenges with faith and unity. Inspired by their patron, St. Pedro Calungsod, they embraced their mission as catechists—not only to teach the faith but to live the Gospel through their words and actions.

Congratulations, Class IESIANS!

May we always remember why we became catechists, remain faithful to our calling, and continue serving with love.

Para sa Diyos. Sa Diyos ang Himaya!
