Jesus, the True Temple
John 2:18–25
Destroy This Temple
18 So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?”
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?”
21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
He Knew What Was in Man
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing.
24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people
25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
Reflection Guide
When the Jews demanded a sign, Jesus said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” But they only understood His words in terms of the physical building and mocked Him. In reality, Jesus was speaking about the temple of His body, pointing to His death and resurrection. Only after He was raised did the disciples remember His words and believe both the Scripture and what He had spoken (vv. 18-22).
Many believed in Jesus during the Passover because of the miracles He per formed. Yet Jesus knew what was in their hearts, so He did not accept a faith that was only outward (vv. 23-25).
Jesus is the risen Lord who has become the true temple. He is the One who knows even the innermost thoughts of our hearts. He does not delight in outward expressions of faith alone but rejoices in sincere faith. Today, we too must look to Jesus, the true temple, with the faith of the resurrection and walk the path of faith with a genuine heart. As we read and meditate on God’s Word, we must ask ourselves:
Are we like the Jews, misunderstanding His message and focusing only on the surface?
Or do we come to Jesus with sincere faith, knowing that He sees and knows our hearts?
Let us come before the Lord, who knows our hearts, not with a superficial faith but with a genuine faith.

Gub-a Kini nga Templo
18 Tungod sa gibuhat ni Jesus nangutana kaniya ang kadagkoan sa mga Judio, “Unsay ilhanan nga ikapakita mo aron pagmatuod nga may katungod ka pagbuhat niini?”
19 Si Jesus mitubag, “Gub-a ninyo kining maong Templo ug tukoron ko kini pag-usab sulod sa tulo ka adlaw.”
20 Sila miingon kaniya, “Kining Temploha gibuhat sa sulod sa 46 ka tuig unya tukoron mo kini pag-usab sulod lang sa tulo ka adlaw?”
21 Apan ang templo nga gihisgotan ni Jesus mao ang iyang lawas.
(22 Busa sa dihang nabanhaw na siya, nahinumdom ang iyang mga tinun-an nga gisulti niya kini ug mituo sila sa kasulatan ug sa gisulti ni Jesus.)
Nasayod Siya sa Sulod sa Tawo
23 Samtang si Jesus didto sa Jerusalem sa panahon sa Kasaulogan sa Pagsaylo, daghan ang nanuo kaniya sa pagkakita nila sa mga milagro nga iyang gihimo.
24 Apan si Jesus wala mosalig kanila kay nasayod man siya sa tanang tawo.
25 Wala kinahanglana nga sultihan pa siya ni bisan kinsa mahitungod sa mga tawo tungod kay siya mismo nasayod man kon unsa ang anaa sa ilang kasingkasing.
Giya sa Pagpamalandong
Sa dihang nangayo ang mga Judio ug ilhanan, si Jesus miingon, “Gub-a kini nga templo, ug sa tulo ka adlaw tukoron ko kini pag-usab.” Nasayop sila sa pagsabot, naghunahuna nga iyang gipasabot ang pisikal nga templo nga gitukod sulod sa kuarenta og unom ka tuig. Apan si Jesus nagpasabot mahitun god sa templo sa iyang lawas, nga nagtudlo sa iyang kamatayon ug pagkabanhaw. Pagkahuman nga Siya nabanhaw, didto ra nahinumdom ang mga tinun an sa iyang gisulti ug mituo sila sa Kasulatan ug sa iyang pulong (vv. 18–22).
Daghang mituo kang Jesus sa Pasko tungod sa mga milagro nga iyang gihimo. Apan si Jesus wala magsalig kanila, kay Siya nakaila sa kasingkasing sa tanang tawo. Dili siya magkinah anglan nga adunay mopamatuod bahin sa tawo, kay siya mismo nasayod sa tanang butang nga anaa sa sulod sa matag usa (vv. 23–25).
Si Jesus mao ang nabanhaw nga Ginoo ug ang tinuod nga templo. Siya mao ang nasayod bisan sa labing tinago nga mga hunahuna sa atong kasing kasing. Dili Siya malipay sa gawasnong panagway sa pagtuo, kondili malipay Siya sa tinuod ug mat inud-anon nga pagtuo. Karong adlawa, kinahanglan usab nato nga motan-aw kang Jesus, ang tinuod nga templo, uban sa pagtuo sa pagkabanhaw ug magalakaw diha sa pagtuo nga sinsero. Samtang nagabasa ug nagapamalandong kita sa Pulong sa Dios, pangutan-on nato ang atong kau galingon:
Sama ba kita sa mga Judio nga nasayop sa pagsabot ug nagapokus lamang sa gawasnong pa nagway?
O nagaduol ba kita kang Jesus uban sa tin uod nga pagtuo, nga nasayod nga Siya nagatan-aw ug nakaila sa atong kasingkasing?
Ibutang nato ang atong mga mata sa nabanhaw nga Cristo, ang tinuod nga templo, ug magkinabuhi kita uban sa tinuod nga pagtuo sa iyang atubangan.
