The missionary work of the Augustinian Orders started in Argao in 1608. The Parish Church was mentioned in 1690 as a visita of Carcar (Galende). It started with 2,568 populations in 1732 and increased to 52,157 (NSO Census1990). By year 2000, the population increased to 54,950 and 62,226 in the year 2007. atholics had produced the largest number of sons ordained as Argawanon priests with its first was Fr. Matias Lucero and the 44th who celebrated his first mass last July 28, 1990 is Msgr. He is the founder-initiator of the religious museum in the parish who is a member of the Visayan Association of Museums and Galleries Inc., (VAMGI). The San Miguel Arcangel matrix was established in 1733 with Fr. Ignacio de Olalde, O.S.A. as its first parish priests. He supervised her construction for three years from 1734-1737
during his term. His successors continued the construction for 51 more years to complete the cruciform church. Engraved just above the entrance door of the right lateral arm of the church is the year 1788 that confirmed the date of its completion. At present, the parish priest is Rev. Fr. Silvino Y.
