RE: DIOCESAN ONLINE LENTEN RECOLLECTION

Dear Reverend Monsignori/Fathers:

The Joy of the Lord be with you!

Although we are still going through the crisis caused by Covid-19, our faith continues. This Lenten season, our diocese will conduct a "Diocesan Online Lenten Recollection". Let us invite our parishioners to join and participate in this spiritual exercise as we prepare for the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord.

The said program will be managed by the Diocesan Ministry on Evangelization and Diocesan Social Communications. It will be held on March 20, 2021, Saturday. The program will be posted on all Facebook Accounts of the parishes. The entire recollection as well as the celebration of the Holy Mass can be watched live online.

The SOCOM of our diocese is instructed to make posters and video-teasers to promote this online recollection. They are also assigned to cover the event and mass and assist each parish to ensure that the program will run smoothly.

HOMILY OF FR. GIORGIO GRIGIONI, FMI
5th Sunday of Lent
March 29, 2020
------------------------------------
1st reading: Ezekiel 37:12-14
Psalm: With the Lord the is mercy and fullness of redemption
2nd reading: Romans 8:8-11
Gospel: John 11:1-45
------------------------------------
I have three simple reflections to share with you.

First, the sisters of Lazarus did not call him by name. They called him “brother.” Martha called him “the one You [Jesus] love” and “brother.” The invitation for us is to consider ourselves ‘loved’ by the Lord. Our name has to be “the one that Jesus loved” and this makes us brothers and sisters to one another.

Second, the person of Martha. Unlike the Gospel of St. Luke, Martha, in the gospel today, leaves everything to meet Jesus. She is like the man born blind and the Samaritan woman who both had a ‘journey of faith.’ Her faith leads to her confession “I have come to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.” Thus, we are not called to believe in a generic resurrection. As Jesus tells “I am the resurrection and the life here and now” so we are called to be a risen people also here and now. The resurrection of Jesus is my resurrection too here and now. Let us not live our lives and yet still remains to be dead.

Third, the command of Jesus “Lazarus, come out!” This command probably means “Lazarus, here! [referring to the side of Jesus].” Jesus calls Lazarus beside Him. Our task is to also stay beside Jesus.

May we rise again with Jesus every day.

BLESSED SUNDAY TO EVERYONE!
