Lord, we pray for our country.
For the families waking up to floodwater instead of a normal morning, for those whose homes are being damaged, for those who are evacuating with only what they can carry, and for those who are still waiting for the rain to stopโkeep them safe. Give them shelter, food, clean water, medicine, and the strength to endure another day.
We pray for the workers whose livelihoods have been put on hold. For the daily wage earners who cannot work when the roads are flooded. For the small vendors, drivers, farmers, fishermen, and families who are wondering what they will put on the table tonight. Lord, provideโnot just through miracles, but through people willing to become an answer to someone's prayer.
We pray for our government and those entrusted with the power to protect our people. Give our leaders wisdom, courage, integrity, and a conscience that cannot be bought. Where there is corruption, expose it. Where there is negligence, awaken accountability. Where public money is meant to protect lives, let it reach the people who need it. Teach our leaders that public office is not a privilege to be enjoyed, but a responsibility to be carried.
Lord, shame the hearts that have forgotten whom they are supposed to serve.
And give us leaders who will choose the welfare of the Filipino people over personal gain.
We remember those who have no home to return to tonight. The homeless who are searching for a dry corner, and the animals left wandering in the rain with nowhere to hide. Protect them. Send people who will notice them, shelter them, feed them, and treat their lives with dignity.
And Lord, we pray for our rescuers.
For the men and women who continue to wade through floodwaters, enter dangerous places, carry strangers to safety, and leave their own families behind to serve othersโprotect them. Some of them are also tired. Some of them are also affected. Some of them are also afraid. Give them strength, wisdom, and safe passage home.
And for those of us who are safe today, do not let our comfort make us blind.
If we have food, teach us to share.
If we have a dry home, teach us to open our doors.
If we have resources, teach us to give.
If we have a voice, teach us to speak for those who are unheard.
Our safety is not just a blessing to enjoy. It can be a blessing entrusted to us for someone else.
And Lord, perhaps this rain is also an invitation for us to wake up.
Teach us to care for creationโnot only when disasters happen, but every day. Teach us to stop treating our rivers, forests, mountains, and oceans as things we can endlessly exploit. Give us the courage to demand better systems, better preparation, better infrastructure, and good governance that protects people before disaster strikesโnot only when cameras are watching.
Because while we cannot stop every storm, we can choose how prepared, how compassionate, and how responsible we are when the storm comes.
Lord, have mercy on our country.
Protect the vulnerable.
Strengthen the servants.
Awaken our leaders.
Move those who are comfortable.
And change all of us.
May we never become so used to seeing people suffer that we stop being moved.
And when the waters finally recede, may we not simply clean up the mess and move on.
May we remember what this storm revealed about our country, our communities, our leadership, our environmentโand about our own hearts.
Make us a people who don't just pray for better days, but become part of building them.
