Parish Renewal EXperience PREX - PIHM, Taktak PREX, short for PARISH RENEWAL EXPERIENCE, is a conversion experience, a rediscovery of our faith, and a strong recall into belonging to the church. Si Fr.

Parish Renewal Experience (PREX)
Maikling Kasaysayan

Gn 15:1-12, 17-18
Mt 7:15-20
A covenant is a sacred agreement between God and man where God promises to take care of man and man promises to be faithful to God.
When he was 85 years old, God made a covenant with childless Abraham to give him descendants more numerous that the stars.
Abraham believed God's promise and remained faithful. When he was 100 and his wife 90, God did give them a son!
Through this son came the Jewish nation out of which came forth the Son of God Jesus Christ. And today, Jesus has 2 billion Christian brothers and sisters worldwide, spiritual descendants of Abraham. God always keeps His promises.
Let us hold fast to our covenant during Baptism & Confirmation to be faithful to God. He will ALWAYS take care of us.

2Cor 5:14-21
Mt 5:33-37
"Do not take a false oath. Make good to the Lord all that you vow." (Gospel)
Many oaths and vows are made in the name of God, like those by public officials, members of a ministry, and couples getting married. Sadly many are quickly broken, belittling the name of God, and causing injustice and damage on those who had depended on the vow.
St. Paul reminds us in the 1st Reading that we who have been saved by Christ have become a new creation, that we have become "the righteousness of God."
Let us try harder, remembering the 4th Beatitude. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness."
"For as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is His kindness toward those who fear Him." (Resp. Psalm)

2Cor 4:7-15
Mt 5:27-32
Today Jesus discusses fidelity.
The LETTER of the law says "Thou shall not commit adultery," but Jesus says we are already guilty if in our heart we lust for s*x. Or power, possessions and anything that leads us to divorce Him.
The SPRIT of the law is to free us from the chains of passing pleasures, and gain the amazing fidelity of St. Paul to Jesus in the First Reading. Jesus wants us to enjoy our marriage/communion/relationship with Him who has the power to create galaxies and provide all that we need.
Let us spend more time with Jesus in spiritual media and activities rather than worldly interests. Blessed and happy are the pure in heart (6th Beatitude) for they shall see, feel and experience the love of God.

2Cor 3:4-11
Mt 5:17-19
The Commandments our Father gave in the Old Testament remain in force till the end of time. But our sincere efforts to obey them can make us sad saints - legalistic and judgmental.
Jesus wants to free us from these sad attitudes by giving us His Beatitudes, These blessed (happy) attitudes make us see the real intent of the Commandments - to love each other, joyfully following Him to heaven.
With Jesus' sacrifice forgiving our confessed sins, and with His Holy Spirit living in us, we have entered the Age of Grace. We are New Testament people relying not on our strength to obey but on God's Grace (help).
The ultimate source of Grace is the Holy Eucharist. Let us receive this fabulous Gift daily and be happy saints.

Acts 22:30; 23:6-11
Jn 17:20-26
In the Gospel, Jesus prays for the unity of all generations who will come to follow Him. He prays to His Father that they may be united, "I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one." (Jn 17:23, RSV)
Jesus wants unity for a house divided quickly falls, as St. Paul demonstrates in the 1st Reading. Unity is vital if the whole world is to believe in His message. Sadly today there are 35,000 denominations of believers worldwide, each claiming the truth.
At the end of the 1st Reading, Jesus sends the single Church He founded to Rome, and from there to the whole world.
This Sunday is Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Let us give her and her Bridegroom Jesus the gift of obedience and unity.

Rom 12:9-16
Lk 1:39-56
"Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone."
Indeed good-time friends disappear when our money and health are gone. It is the way of the world.
But our faith teaches us, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." (Rom 12:15)
Today we recall the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on cousin Elizabeth. Mary was already pregnant at that time, and should have been taking care of herself. But instead she traveled a hundred difficult miles with Jesus in her womb, to help the also pregnant but much older Elizabeth.
Dearest Mother, visit me in my time of sorrow and pain, and bring me the joy and company of Jesus. And I ask you to travel with me to bring Jesus to others who also weep.

Acts 20:17-27
Jn 17:1-11
Picture this: One day, you and your friends go to a cemetery for a funeral. Prayers are said and the coffin is lowered into the hole. Then everyone goes home - except YOU...
One thing sure in life is death. In the Gospel, Jesus is preparing for the end of His life and He reports to His Father, "I have shown Your glory on earth; I have finished the work You gave me to do."
In the 1st Reading, St. Paul also prepares for the end of his life. He reports to his friends, "I only want to complete my mission and finish the work that Jesus gave me to do."
One day we too must submit our life's report to our Creator. Let us practice reporting every night. And in the morning, thank God for the chance to rewrite our report.

Acts 18:9-18
Jn 16:20-23
Jesus said, "When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish, but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world."
Countless generations of new mothers have known this awesome joy of new life. All fears vanish at the sight of the bundle of joy by her side.
But ever since the contraceptive pill came out in 1960, babies have become burdens, not blessings. The Church prohibits it but hardly anyone listens.
Today Muslim population have overtaken Christians worldwide. Muslims conceive, Christians contracept. Muslims kill their enemies, Christians kill their babies.
So now, from Marawi to Manchester, we eat the fruits of our disobedience.

Acts 18:1-8
Jn 16:16-20
At the Last Supper, Jesus told the apostles, "You will see me no more; then a little while later you will see me."
He was preparing them for the grief of separation, but also promising them the joy of their reunion.
When we are in our own Calvary of suffering, we too grieve that Jesus is nowhere to be seen. But if in faith we persist in caring for others in spite our own misery, we are uniting our suffering with Jesus who used His suffering to save us.
In time, our faithfulness to Jesus and His ways will resurrect us into a new life of peace and harmony with God, neighbor and nature, with brand new eyes attuned to see Him in the many ways He comes with provisions of grace and mercies, turning our grief into joy.

Acts 17:15, 22--18:1
Jn 16:12-15
"When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you to all truth... He will take from what is mine and declare it to you." (Gospel)
In the Holy Spirit, Jesus is with us at all times. At crossroads where moral choices must be made, the Holy Spirit's gentle voice reminds us of Jesus' teachings and prompts us to decide by them.
But every day we walk past many altars dedicated to worldly gods (First Reading). We must not allow them to drown out the Holy Spirit for His wisdom and love always leads us to where grace and mercies abound.
O Holy Spirit, by your power the Blessed Virgin gave birth to Jesus. Overpower my hard heart that I too may say Yes to you and give birth to Jesus to those in need of Him. Amen.

WORD Today

Acts 16:1-10
Jn 15:18-21
In the First Reading we see the Apostle St. Paul resuming his mission of building the Church all over the Mediterranean and then to Europe. Wherever he went, he preached the Gospel AND obedience to the Church letter of instruction that he was carrying (Acts 16:4).
In the Gospel, Jesus tells His Apostles, His Church builders, how true believers should be: "If they kept MY word, they will keep YOURS also"
This should be an eye-opener for "born-again Christians". Unlike St. Paul, they preach the Gospel of Jesus but rebellion against His Church.
Let's not be fooled. Let us continue to love the Gospel, the Eucharist, Mama Mary, the Saints and the Rosary given to us by the Church Jesus founded and the Apostles built.

Acts 15:7-21
Jn 15:9-11
In today's First Reading is a key moment in Church history. St. Peter, the Apostles and Bishops from many churches are gathered in the first-ever Church council, the Jerusalem Council. At the urging of St. Peter, the Church eliminates circumcision as a requirement for entry into Christianity. It is a major break from tradition and Judaism.
The Church did this in order to bring Christ's love and salvation to non-Jews around the world.
Today's successor of St. Peter, Pope Francis, and Bishops around the world are in a similar situation regarding Communion for divorced-&-remarried Catholics. It is a very complex issue. Let us always pray for the Pope and the whole Church to be unerringly guided by the Holy Spirit.
