ACTION Philippines’ three-prong strategy for urban ministry among the poor involves grassroots evangelism, life-transforming discipleship and innovative development. Committed to fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20), ACTION Philippines networks with local churches, national organizations and other mission agencies to reach people for Christ (evangelism), train them in
Christian living (discipleship), and assist them in their physical and economic needs (development). In Metro Manila alone, an estimated four million Filipinos live in “squatter areas” – locations where no one else wants to live. Every day in Manila, more than 75,000 children play, work, beg and sleep on the streets of the city. Mike Gingerich is the Director of ACTION Philippines. ACTION Philippines currently has 36 career missionaries, 18 staff members and hundreds of volunteers serving throughout the Philippines, focusing on street children, squatter families, professionals, influencers, pastors, Christian workers and Bible school students. Some of the ministries ACTION Philippines missionaries are involved in are printing and distributing books to pastors and Christian leaders through BookShare, caring for children in the Home of Joy, engaging in evangelism and discipleship to inmates in a prison ministry, teaching missionary children at Faith Academy, giving guidance and training to street boys at Honest Hands, teaching life discipleship courses, caring physically and spiritually for children in need, caring for people at medical clinics, instructing poor young women in sewing skills and the Bible, holding conferences for pastors and Christian leaders, and reaching street children with love and the Gospel. ACTION Philippines has a variety of missionary needs. They are in need of administrative assistants, bookkeepers, short-term building and maintenance teams, a business administrator, camp coordinators, a chaplain, community development workers, healthcare workers, leadership and pastoral development (BookShare) help, a midwife, a personnel administrator and short-term ministry coordinator, street children workers, teachers for missionary children, urban research missionaries and coordinators, and vocational teachers.
