Batang Parokya PIHM Batang Parokya is the Education Program of the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (PIHM) ALTERNATIVE CLASSES a.k.a. KLASENG IBANG KLASE! HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The Education Program of the parish is aimed at providing free education to children from the poorest communities belonging to the Parish. SATURDAY TUTORIALS and THE TUTORS

The grantees are required to attend Saturday tutorials from 9 am to 12:00 nn at the parish where they receive supplementary lessons in English and Math. Since these tutorial sessions are “open”, there are also a number of non-

grantees who regularly attend (mostly siblings, cousins, other family members of the grantees)

Tutors are purely voluntary, majority of whom are college students and young professionals, headed by Teacher Maricor. Aside from the regular English and Math lessons, we also try to provide other opportunities for learning and hold these alternative classes once a year. We have held sessions on Good Grooming, Being a Gentleman, The Art of Tie-dying, Cupcake Decorating, and Car Washing. Aside from these, we also hold Career talks to guide our High School grantees on their career options. Financially
Expenses for each student include tuition fee, school supplies, uniform and transportation allowance. As such, we accept donations of any amount.

Volunteer tutors and resource speakers are most welcome!

3. Donations in kind
We accept donations for snacks, books, school supplies.

We celebrated Christmas early!

Finally, a back-to-normal Christmas celebration with games, presentations, and with the parents enjoying all the fun. More than just being grantees, the Batang Parokya is one big family. 🥰

Aaaaaaand we're back! A simple Christmas party 🎉 to celebrate different milestones (moving up, honors, academic achievements, graduates) that we missed and to finally see how everyone is doing and how they have grown in the past 2 years. ♥️

We're happy that a few of our "alumni" from earlier batches already with families and part of the workforce were able to join and catch up.

Dear Friends and Sponsors,

Thank you for your continued support in the Batang Parokya program especially in the past two years as we have all had to work through and around this pandemic.

While the weekly tutorials in the parish have been put on hold, the program has been able to continue because of your contributions. With the shift to the study-from-home setup in the recent years, funds for their transportation allowance were instead used for online load access as many shifted to online learning. Those who selected modular learning still had online consultations with their teachers. Those without mobile devices were also given access (phone/tablet/laptop as needed) through donations from friends and supporters of the program.

As we did not have any field trips, funds set aside for these activities were re-allocated to provide some cash assistance along with food aid to their families during the height of the lockdowns when many of their parents were not able to go to work. Though the usual Christmas party celebrations have not been possible, each family still received Christmas packages in the past two years.

As the new schoolyear begins and face to face classes resume this August, we recognize the need to increase their allocated allowance due to increasing fuel prices and overall increase in the price of goods and supplies. We are sharing some photos these past two years, along with the updated sponsorship packages for your easy reference. We also look forward to slowly bringing back regular tutorial sessions and other activities.

Again, on behalf of the grantees of the Batang Parokya program, we are truly grateful for the opportunities that have been made available because of your generosity.

Schoolyear 2020 began with much uncertainty, and we are very grateful for the continued support given by the Batang Parokya sponsors. 🙏

The allowance usually set aside for the transportation expenses of the kids were used instead to help them with their study-from-home setup ---- buying phone chargers, simple earphones, sim cards with better data access plans, and for mobile data load to allow them to join online classes and teacher consultations.

It has been a challenging year for the students and their parents alike. The nanays and tatays had to learn jargon such as “soft copy” or “hard copy”, learn how to use Google Meet and Zoom, among many others.

To cap off this unforgettable year, we wanted to make sure that their families receive some holiday cheer and while we could not hold our annual Christmas party for safety reasons, Pamaskong Bayongs were distributed to each family.
