With my faith, I can really do anything.

A really big challenge of mine was mental health issues. It was hard to pick myself up. Some days, I felt like I just didn’t want to do anything. I lost a lot of motivation to be active in church, which was really hard. I wanted to give up, and it really put me down.

But during that time, I realized that Heavenly Father was always willing to be patient—He would wait for me to be ready—and that the Savior understood what I was going through. When I remembered that, I was able to pick myself back up.

When I started to build my testimony of Jesus Christ, I realized that I felt more like myself and I was happier. It was just exciting! It was so nice knowing that I had my own testimony and that I didn’t force it. It was like my own thing. It was my own personal experience. I choose to walk with Christ because He’s changed me a lot, and I really don’t know what I would do or what I would be without Him. —Phoebe

“I became a better player because of my faith.”

During the high school championship game, Elijah started losing all confidence. At halftime, he decided to pray and ask for strength. In the end, Elijah went home with something better than a victory: He learned the value of losing.

“There’s no loser,” Elijah says. “When you lose, you learn more things. I can feel positive and kick the negativity out of my mind.”

Losing isn’t a loss! Our Heavenly Father has promised us that He will “consecrate [our] afflictions for [our] gain” (2 Nephi 2:2). True victory comes when we trust God’s strength over our own.

Not long after my parents divorced, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. That night, as we counseled and prayed together as a family, I felt that God was in control.

Even though my mom was sick, we decided to trust God and live life to the fullest. The doctors gave my mom permission to travel to Scotland with my family, and we had the best time together. My mom and I have a solid relationship, but we became even closer on that trip. She became my best friend! I know that God allowed us to make these memories and grow closer.

Right after we got home, we saw so many miracles. My mom had a surgery, but she didn’t need to go through chemotherapy. A few months later, she met an amazing man. Seeing him love and care for her helped me feel God’s love. Now he’s my stepdad. And my mom is cancer free!

My mom has always reminded me of how important it is to bring God into my daily life. She’s shown me how to exercise unwavering faith. Most of all, she has taught me how to build a relationship with Jesus Christ. I feel so much love and gratitude for Him and for my family. —Hailey
