Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, Pray for us 🙏🏽🙏🏽
HAPPY FEAST OF OUR LADY OF PEACE & GOOD VOYAGE!
Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, also known as Our Lady of Antipolo, is one of the most cherished Marian devotions in the Philippines. Enshrined at the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo Cathedral) in Rizal, she is widely honored as the patroness of travelers, pilgrims, and those seeking safe journeys. Her feast is traditionally celebrated on the first Tuesday of May, a time when thousands of devotees undertake pilgrimages to Antipolo as an expression of faith, thanksgiving, and petition.
The origin of her title is deeply rooted in the 17th-century Manila–Acapulco Galleon Trade, when the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary was brought aboard Spanish ships crossing the Pacific Ocean. According to tradition, sailors and missionaries attributed their safe arrival despite storms, piracy, and long voyages to her intercession. Because of these accounts of protection, she became known as Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje—Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage—signifying her role as both protector of travelers and source of peace amid uncertainty.
Her importance in the Catholic Church was further affirmed when the image received a canonical coronation in 1926, a formal recognition granted by the Holy See to Marian images with strong historical devotion and reported miracles. This coronation highlighted not only the depth of Filipino devotion but also the enduring belief in her maternal care and spiritual significance. Over the centuries, she has remained a powerful symbol of faith, especially among Filipinos who face long journeys or life transitions.
Today, devotion to Our Lady of Antipolo remains vibrant and culturally significant, especially among Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and pilgrims who entrust their travels and future to her protection. She continues to represent hope, safety, and divine guidance in the midst of life’s uncertainties. In a nation marked by migration and movement, her image reminds the faithful that every journey is accompanied by God’s grace through the maternal intercession of Mary, who leads them toward peace and safe arrival.
