: "When words fail in silence, let your heart sing for repentance"
On this Friday of the First Week of Lent, the readings remind us that repentance is not merely spoken but lived—echoing the truth that when words fail in silence, the heart must sing its sorrow before God.
Through the prophet Book of Ezekiel, the Lord assures us that He does not delight in punishment but rejoices when the sinner turns back to life, inviting us to create a “new heart and a new spirit.”
Psalm 130 becomes the quiet cry of that repentant heart rising from the depths, trusting not in its own defense but in God’s mercy and plenteous redemption. In the Gospel according to Saint Matthew, Jesus calls us beyond external righteousness into interior conversion—warning that anger, harsh words, and unreconciled relationships wound the soul just as gravely as visible sins.
True repentance, then, is not loud performance but humble transformation: a silent turning away from sin, a courageous step toward reconciliation, and a heart that, even without many words, sings its contrition through concrete acts of justice, mercy, and restored communion.
