As we celebrate the 124th Proclamation Anniversary of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente at IFI Quiabo Mission this August 2, 2026, the celebration began with a Holy Mass presided over by Monsignor Alberto Taban.

This blessed gathering reminded us of the rich history and enduring mission of our Church. The Iglesia Filipina Independiente was proclaimed on August 3, 1902, through the efforts of the Unión Obrera Democrática (UOD) under the leadership of Isabelo de los Reyes Sr., together with our first Obispo Máximo, Gregorio Aglipay. It was born from the Filipino people's desire for a Church that was free, self-governing, and truly Filipino.

At a time when Filipino clergy and faithful were often denied equal authority under colonial rule and were treated only as servants in their own land, the Iglesia Filipina Independiente became a symbol of faith, dignity, freedom, and love for our nation. It proclaimed that Filipinos, too, were called by God to lead, to serve, and to shepherd His people.

As Monsignor Alberto reminded us:
“We are not Aglipay. We are an Iglesia Filipina Independiente.”

May this anniversary strengthen our faith, deepen our commitment to God's mission, and inspire us to continue living out the legacy of our Church with humility, courage, and love for both God and country.
