Reformed Churches of PNG The Reformed Churches of PNG are a federation of churches in NCD, Central, and Morobe province. Our relationship with God has been broken because of our sins.

These churches have roots in the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century and are linked to Reformed Churches all around the world. The word ‘reformed’ points to the fact that these churches always seek to go back to the truth revealed in God’s Word in all areas of life and faith. God's Word teaches us that we are sinners who have turned away from God. We are not able to save ourselves or restor

e our relationship with God by our own works. But God, in His grace has sent us His only Son, Jesus Christ to pay for our sins, live a perfect life for us, and by His Holy Spirit bring us back into a right relationship with Him. While some theological documents can feel dry or academic, the Heidelberg is famous for its warm, deeply personal tone. Right from Question 1, it doesn't ask "What is God?" but rather: "What is your only comfort in life and in death?"

It beautifully organizes the Christian life into three simple themes:

Guilt: Facing our brokenness.

A common argument used by people who don't believe Jesus is God is called the "Agent Argument."

Think of an agent like a real estate agent or a delivery driver - they don't own the house or the company; they are just given permission to act on behalf of the boss. This argument claims that Jesus is just God's messenger. It says he only has power because God gave it to him, not because he is actually God himself.

However, this argument has a massive flaw. Here are three reasons why, using specific stories from the Bible:

1. Pointing to Yourself vs. Pointing Away (Acts 3)
Normal human messengers in the Bible always deflect credit. For example, in Acts 3, when the disciples heal a paralyzed man, they immediately point away from themselves and tell the crowd not to look at them as if they had some special power. They give all the credit to God.

Jesus does the exact opposite. When he exercises authority, he consistently points right back to himself as the source of that power.

2. Equal in Action (John 5:17-27)
In John 5:17-27, Jesus claims he can do the exact same things God the Father does, including bringing the dead back to life and judging humanity. The religious leaders of the time get furious because they realize Jesus is claiming to be equal with God.

If Jesus were just a regular messenger, he would have corrected them and said, "Hold on, you misunderstood me!" Instead, he affirms what they are thinking and lets the claim stand because they understood him perfectly.

3. The Authority to Forgive (Mark 2)
In Mark 2, Jesus tells a paralyzed man that his sins are forgiven. The religious teachers get angry and think, "Only God can forgive sins! This is blasphemy (an insult to God)."

Instead of backing down or saying he is just delivering a message from God, Jesus proves he has the unique divine right to forgive sins by healing the man right then and there. He shows he isn't just a helper; he has God's actual authority.

The Main Takeaway (Ontology vs. Function):
The Agent Argument mixes up how someone gets a job done with who they actually are. Just because God the Son works in perfect harmony with God the Father doesn't mean he is just a separate, lesser helper. Instead, he is a distinct person acting within the very nature and essence of God.
