Feast of St Mark
🙏
Saint Mark the Evangelist, though you were young when you met our Lord, you grew deeply in faith and faithfully heeded His commission to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Through your fidelity to Christ, countless souls came to believe through your preaching and continue to encounter Him through your inspired writing. Please pray for me, that I may have the courage to speak and act in Jesus’ name, becoming an instrument of His saving Word. Jesus, I trust in You.

✝️ WHY SUNDAY REPLACED THE SABBATH. DID THE CHURCH CHANGE GOD’S LAW?

For thousands of years, God’s people worshipped on Saturday.

The Sabbath was not optional.

👉 It was commanded by God Himself.

So here is the uncomfortable question:

👉 Why do Christians worship on Sunday instead?
👉 Did the Church change God’s law?

This is where many people get it wrong.

✝️ 1. GOD DID NOT ABOLISH THE SABBATH, HE FULFILLED IT

The Sabbath was about:

👉 Creation

“On the seventh day God rested…” (Genesis 2:2)

But something greater happened.

Jesus died and:

👉 Rested in the tomb on the Sabbath.

Then:

👉 He rose on Sunday.

This is not random.

This is a pattern.

Creation - God rested

Redemption - Christ rested

New Creation - Christ rose

👉 Sunday is not a replacement.

👉 It is the completion of the story.

✝️ 2. THE RESURRECTION CHANGED THE DAY FOREVER 😳

All four Gospels insist on one detail:

👉 “On the first day of the week…”

(Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1, John 20:1)

Why repeat it?

Because that day:

👉 Death was broken
👉 Sin was defeated
👉 A new world began

👉 History split in two.

Sunday is not just a day.

👉 It is the day everything changed.

✝️ 3. THE APOSTLES DID NOT WAIT, THEY MOVED TO SUNDAY

This was not invented centuries later.

The Apostles themselves:

📖 “On the first day of the week… we gathered to break bread” (Acts 20:7)

📖 “On the first day of every week…” (1 Corinthians 16:2)

👉 This is the Eucharist.
👉 This is Sunday worship.

Not later tradition.

👉 Apostolic practice.

✝️ 4. SUNDAY IS THE “EIGHTH DAY” 🔥

The early Church called Sunday:

👉 The Eighth Day

Why?

Because it is not just another day in the cycle.

👉 It breaks the cycle.

7 days = time

8th day = eternity

So every Sunday:

👉 You are stepping into eternal life ahead of time

✝️ 5. THE SABBATH WAS A SHADOW, CHRIST IS THE REALITY 😳

St. Paul says something radical:

👉 “These are a shadow… but the substance belongs to Christ”
(Colossians 2:16–17)

This is serious.

👉 The Sabbath pointed forward.

👉 Christ fulfills it.

So the question is no longer:

“Which day?”

But:

👉 “Who is your rest?”

And the answer is:

👉 Jesus Himself.

✝️ 6. THE EARLY CHURCH CONFIRMS IT

From the very beginning:

👉 St. Ignatius (A.D. 107):
Christians live according to the Lord’s Day

👉 St. Justin Martyr (A.D. 155):
Sunday is the day of Christian worship because of the Resurrection

This is not corruption.

👉 This is continuity.

✝️ FINAL MESSAGE

The Sabbath was holy.

But it was pointing to something greater.

👉 Sunday is not a human invention.

👉 It is the day God revealed the new creation.

ONE LINE THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING:

👉 The Sabbath remembered creation…
Sunday reveals a world reborn.

✝️ So when you go to Mass on Sunday…

You are not breaking God’s law.

👉 You are standing inside its fulfillment.

The risen Christ comes to us today just as He came to the disciples—bringing peace, restoring hope, and breathing new life. He calls us by name and invites us to rise with Him:
Rise from doubt to faith
Rise from fear to courage
Rise from sadness to joy
Rise from death to new life
Easter is a promise: life will triumph. Love will win. Hope will never disappoint.
So let us not remain in the tombs of our past. Let us step into the light of the Resurrection. Let us be witnesses of hope in a world that longs for healing and joy.
May the risen Lord fill your heart with peace, renew your strength, and make you a bearer of His light.
Happy Easter! Christ is alive—and so is our hope
