A Reflection: 5th Sunday of Easter (year c), Jn 13:31-35, 05/18/25

“Love one another”

Many people even Christians don’t know what is the ultimate goal in life. People think only of short term and long term goals.

That is why many have been swayed away from that ultimate goal because after they achieved their goals, they just don’t know what to do after.

They thought of resorting to the material and worldly things and values — drugs, alcohol, gambling, womanizing, corruption, and greed, etc. they think that they will stay here on earth forever and be happy.
****

Our ultimate goal in life is:

to be one with Christ and finally be with Him in His kingdom in heaven

Or to be one of those to be resurrected when Jesus comes again in His glory for the final judgement

Or to have eternal life!
****

How are we to achieve it?

By doing the will of God, that is, the 2 greatest commandments:

1) to love God more than anything else and

2) to love one another.

How do we love God?

By doing all the church’s Sacraments left by Jesus before He ascended into heaven.

And if we are doing all these wholeheartedly , then we do the 2nd commandment.

Loving one another… and it is the fulfillment of God’s will.

When we decide to love others, it is just like loving God!

But how do we love others since it’s very difficult to do it especially those who hurt us so badly!!!

Well, Jesus gave us a model how! He said, “Love one another as I have loved you.” (Jn 13:34)

How did Jesus loved us? Look at the cross... He gave up his life for us to save us even if we are not worthy. “He died for us even when we were still sinners.”

That’s how we are to love all people.

You want to be resurrected?

You want to be with Christ?

You want to have eternal life?

Decide now my friend : Give up your life for the other just as you give up your life for God.

Let us pray:

“Lord, humble my heart that I can give up myself to love you in others! Amen 🙏 🙏

PEACE AND LOVE.
