Nestled between forested hills and the Oslofjord, Oslo is the beautiful capital of Norway. The city blends history and innovation, from the medieval Akershus Fortress to the striking Oslo Opera House and City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each year.
Approximately 5.6 million people live in Norway, with about 1 million in the greater Oslo area. Most Norwegians are affiliated with the Church of Norway (Lutheran), though many are non-practicing.
Surveys show that around 40–50 percent of Norwegians say they do not believe in God or identify as secular. Oslo is also home to Muslim, Catholic, Buddhist, and humanist communities.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church has about 4,461 members worshiping in 59 congregations in Norway, including the Oslo International Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Betel Adventist Church.
While Norway enjoys peace, prosperity, and natural beauty, secularism poses a growing challenge. Please pray for the people in Oslo and across Norway, and for our members there as they seek to reach out to their communities.
