VAISAKHI - KHALSA SAAJNA DIVAS - TRANSLATION FROM SRI GURPARTAP SURAJ GRANTH

Lakh Lakh Vadhai to all the Saadhsangat on Vaisakhi Purab. On the Sangraand of Vaisakh, 1756 Bikrami (1699 AD) at Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji took the ultimate test of the Sikhs by asking for five heads. Five Sikhs offered their man, tan and dhan (their mind, body and wealth i.e. their everything) to Guru Sahib and were the first to be blessed with Khandeh Baate Da Amrit. Mahakavi Bhai Santokh Singh Ji describes this moment after the Amrit was prepared as follows:

ਕਮਲ ਪਾਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੋ ਲੀਨੋ।
ਦੇ ਕਰ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਪਿਆਵਨ ਕੀਨੋ।
ਲੋਚਨ ਮਹਿ ਛਿੜਕੇ ਫੁਨ ਮਾਰੇ।
ਕੇਸ ਜੂੜ ਮੈਂ ਅੰਜੁਲ ਡਾਰੇ॥੨੯॥
Guru Ji took Amrit from the Baata with their lotus hands and gave it to the Panj Piare to drink. Guru Ji sprinkled Amrit in the eyes of the Panj Piare and placed Amrit in their Kesh (at the location of the Dasam Dvaar).

ਵਾਸੀ ਨਾਮ ਬੂਝਿਬੋ ਕੀਨ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੈ ਦਯਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਹਿ ਦੀਨ।
ਲਵਪੁਰ ਜਨਮ ਬਸਨ ਕੋ ਧਾਮੂ।
ਦਯਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਖਸ਼ਯੋ ਨਾਮੂ॥੩੦॥
Guru Ji then asked them their names and hometowns. First of all Bhai Daya Singh Ji spoke saying, “I was born and live in Lavpur (Lahore), Guru Ji you have blessed me with the name of Daya Singh (embodiment of compassion)."

ਦੂਸਰ ਕਹਯੋ ਹਸਤਨਾਪੁਰ ਕੋ ।
ਨਾਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੈਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰ ਕੋ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਯੋ ਭਨਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸੀ।
ਪੂਰੀ ਦਵਾਰਕਾ ਹੈ ਮਮ ਵਾਸੀ॥੩੧॥
The second said, “I hail from Hastinapur and as a Sikh of the Guru I have been blessed with the name of Dharam Singh (the embodiment of Righteousness).” The third said to Guru Ji, “I am a resident of Dwarka.”
