Vacancy - Cemetery Site Custodian

We're looking for an energetic person to join our small cemetery team in maintaining the eight Council operated cemeteries, with your expertise in line trimming, gardening skills, burial operations, and other general grounds maintenance. Wheels, tracks and rollers endorsement, excavator and ride on mower experience would be advantageous. Council will support you in attaining any endorsements if required.
Being compassionate, reliable, a team player, along with good communication and proven organisational skills is essential to the smooth running of our cemeteries. You will be assisting families and funeral directors with plot sales, locating plots, service arrangements and most importantly, ensuring families feel comfortable and well attended to.
This permanent full-time role has a base of 37.5 hours per week and requires some overtime. You will play a key part of the on-call roster covering weekends and public holidays.
This position is based at the award winning Maunu Cemetery which boasts beautifully landscaped grounds with rolling grassy slopes leading to picturesque forests. You will be provided with onsite parking, uniform, phone and PPE.
For the right candidate, the opportunity exists for further on the job study in the field of amenity horticulture, which includes hard and soft landscaping, irrigation, plant knowledge and more.
Some of the skills we are looking for are:
Sensitivity in dealing with the public.
Ability to operate and maintain machinery.
Ability to carry out work requiring practical skills.
Physical fitness to undertake manual work.
Experience with various mowers.
