Every voice raised for change matters. Your concern is real, and the need in our communities is urgent.

Right now in Aotearoa, too many people are struggling:
➡️65,000 Kiwis needed food support in the last 6 months
➡️Solo parents are choosing between school uniforms and dinner
➡️People are sleeping rough and facing hardship every day

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but every action, big or small, can make a difference. Supporting food banks, funding local programmes or advocating for better housing can help change lives.

Sometimes, what feels like a small sacrifice, like your monthly coffee budget, could mean weekly counselling for someone struggling, or a step forward in their recovery journey.

Let’s come together and be part of the change. Be the difference, be a True Hero. https://www.salvationarmy.org.nz/trueheroes/

Huge thanks to Awakiri Scout Group for organizing a foodbank donation drive - you're all amazing!! ❤️ these much needed donations will restock our foodbank 🙏🙏

Wheke and Morepork from Awakeri Scout Group dropped off our donation to the Salvation Army Foodbank ladies this afternoon.

They got a bit of a shock, as we rocked up with 10 boxes of non perishable food and $265 of fresh food (from cash donations).

So... we are issuing a challenge!
Who can match our efforts?

1st Ngongotaha Venturers, Scouts, Cubs and Keas- do you accept the challenge?

“When you’re homeless in winter, you never get warm,” says Rhonda Tam’ali’i, Manager at Waitakere Community Ministry. “One sleeping bag just doesn’t do it. Our homeless need two—one to sleep in and one to wrap around themselves.”

This harsh reality is echoed across the country. Every town and city is seeing the same struggle: people sleeping rough under bridges, in parks, or doorways, trying to stay dry and safe.

Our State of the Nation reports paints a sobering picture with the following stats:

- Over 41,000 people across New Zealand are experiencing homelessness in some form
- An estimated 3,000–4,000 people sleep rough on any given night
- 19,089 people are currently waiting for a Kāinga Ora home
- The average wait time is 233 days
- Nearly 50% of those on the waitlist are Māori, highlighting deep inequities in housing access
- Youth homelessness is rising, especially among those aged 15–24, driven by family breakdowns, poverty, and lack of affordable housing
