“When he was at table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him” (Luke 24:30-32).

Things happens when Jesus gathers us at table.

Join us at 12:30pm every Thursday in June for "At Table". We’ll read stories from Scripture of when Jesus meets with people around food. We’ll share soup and rolls and sing Taizé-style songs. And we’ll see what happens when Jesus hosts us at table.

Questions and curiosity are welcomed. Clear-cut answers will be scarce. Good kai & conversation are guaranteed.

50 days after celebrating Easter, we arrive at Pentecost when God sends the Holy Spirit to empower and encourage the disciples. Wind, flame, and breath marked that day, and ever since, these and other symbols from Creation have helped us understand the power and movement of the Holy Spirit.

Our friends at Eco Church NZ have put out an invitation to churches to create art from across Aotearoa, exploring symbols representing the Holy Spirit — breath, wind, fire, birds, flight, light — through a uniquely Aotearoa lens. And we thought we'd get involved!

On Sunday 24th May, when we celebrate Pentecost, part of the service will be dedicated to enjoying each others art. Which means you've got two weeks to create something uniquely Aotearoa.

If you choose to take part in the Pentecost Art Project, email me a photo of your artwork. Or simply bring it along on the day.

And if you'd like some inspiration, follow the link in the comments.

Good Friday at Ngaio Union starts with coffee and hot cross buns at 9:30am. Once we're all caffeinated, people are invited into the main worship space for prayer stations that help us to reflect on different aspects of the Good Friday event.

Join us on Thursday at 6:30pm for a BYO fish & chip supper followed by a Service of Shadows. This Tenebrae Service remembers the night that Jesus was betrayed. It includes hand washing, Communion, Taize chants, and plenty of silence.

The countdown to Easter begins this Sunday as we shout “Hosanna!” and wave ponga fronds remembering the triumphant entrance of Jesus the Messiah into the city of Jerusalem. Though, hanging on every word we say, song we sing, and in the hubbub of activity is the anticipation of the Good Friday event.

Palm Sunday also allows us to reflect on the signs of modern-day Empires and the alternative we find in the way of Jesus.

We'd love you to join us.

In September last year, we explored the Old Testament prophet, Jeremiah, who faced complex geo-political issues in his time. And we asked what God, through Jeremiah, might be saying to us about how we can respond to a geopolitical issue of our own: the climate crisis. This lead to us to draft a Climate Covenant - a series of promises between us and God, and us and one another. On Sunday 1 March, we adopted the Ngaio Union Climate Covenant.

This isn't a document that we'll store away to collect dust. Our hope is that the Covenant remains a living document. We’ve done that already, in this season of Lent, by considering the third bullet point “sharing resources, so none have to live in poverty” as part of our poverty mini-series.

Treating the Covenant as a living document also means that at the beginning of every year, we’ll review our promises to God and to one another. This recognises and honours our Methodist whakapapa, with its emphasis on an annual Covenant service at the start of each new year.

We'd love to know how your thoughts. Perhaps you're interested in adopting a Climate Covenant of your own. Let us know!

“It’s the Christmas story, but not like you heard it growing up,” said one of the cast of Ngaio Union Church’s annual nativity walk, 'Christmas Live!'

“It’s also a very real, yet fun and playful, proclamation of God’s love for the world,” is how Ngaio Union’s minister, Brett Reid, described it.

Join the adventure at 4:30pm this Sunday outside The Villa Cafe Ngaio. The story continues past the eels, through to the playground at Cummings Park, and finishes at Ngaio Union Church for Christmas treats.
