Tūmanako! Children's Art for a Peaceful World Exhibition in Ngāmotu New Plymouth.

Every August, the SGI Buddhist community marks Hiroshima and Nagasaki by hosting the Tūmanako! Children's Art for a Peaceful World Exhibition in communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

The exhibition gives children and young people a voice to express their hopes for peace, respect for diversity and a world free from violence.

On 5 August, around 90 people gathered at the Puke Ariki Children's Library for the inaugural opening of the exhibition in Ngāmotu New Plymouth to celebrate the vision of young people for a more peaceful world.

Participants include local leaders Councillor Dinnie Moeahu, Dr Ruakere Hond and Mahara Okeroa of Parihaka, SGINZ representatives Kenric Ma, Joycelyn Raffills and Mai Ly, local organisers (Katerina Hohaia, Juliette Knight and Cherie Boyd), the young emcees Sophie Dodunski and Isabella Knight, local community members and school children.

🌈Tūmanako! Children’s Artworks for a Peaceful World Exhibition🌈

This August is an especially busy and exciting month for Tūmanako! Children’s Artworks for a Peaceful World exhibitions and opening ceremonies taking place across Aotearoa - Taranaki, Auckland, Katikati, Wellington, Hastings, and Pāpāmoa🌼

In Wellington, we are delighted that this year’s exhibition will once again be held at Johnsonville Library, from Friday 14 August to Sunday 6 September💚

This year, we are especially excited to display more than 350 artworks created by over 400 students from schools and community groups across the Wellington region. It is wonderful to see so many young people sharing their creativity, hopes, and heartfelt messages for a more peaceful world🕊️

It is always inspiring to see the children’s creativity and heartfelt messages of peace come to life through their artworks. Each artwork reflects the hopes and dreams of our young people for a more peaceful world🌿

We warmly invite you to come and see the exhibition at Johnsonville Library. Bring your whānau, family, and friends, and take some time to enjoy the wonderful creativity and inspiring messages of our young artists. Be inspired by their creativity, hope, and imagination!💙🤍💚
