Kurinchi Kumaran Temple Wellington Om Muruga
This is the official page of the Kurinchi Kumaran Temple in Wellington, New Zealand. Every great structure built has some humble beginnings.

In October 1992, a group of devout Hindus gathered in Wellington to worship and praise the great Lord Murugan, on the festival of Skanda Shashti. They did this with a framed picture in a house on Webb Street. Thus started New Zealand's first South Indian style Hindu Temple.
22 years later, this has transformed into a premier location for Hindus to practice and develop our culture and religion such

that it thrives on the shores of the multicultural New Zealand. The Kurinchi Kumaran Temple is one of the southernmost Hindu Temples in the World, a testament to the spread of our religion in the modern age. The temple is built in accordance to the rich traditions of over a thousand years. We have truly brought authentic Hindu architecture and culture to New Zealand. It is a testament that our culture, traditions and religion can survive and flourish in Western Society - All this despite the limitations of nature that Wellington poses. The temple opens for pooja every evening, and is open to everyone. Deities of Ganesh, Murugan, Shiva, Vishnu, Hanuman, Goddess Amman, Shastha, Navagraha (nine planets) and Bhairava are present in their physical forms in the temple. Pooja is performed every day to them, with special pooja on festive days. Devotees have the opportunity to offer prayers in the form of archanai, abishekham, and sponsorship (ubhayam) of special pooja on festive days. Archanai is done for many special occasions, including upcoming marriage, new cars, businesses, birthdays, and anniversaries. Other cultural development initiatives are undertaken at the temple, such as youth Bhajan singing, the annual Thevaram competition, Sanskrit classes and opportunities for children and youth to make speeches on cultural and religious topics. Our temple is run solely by volunteers, and operates on donations. It is unique across temples in the world in this aspect. We exist solely for the benefit of our culture and religion, so Hindus have a place to worship the Lord. If you are interested in donating towards the operation of the temple, please contact us. This page exists in order to keep devotees up to date about special events coming up in the Temple. Please feel free to ask questions, offer feedback, post photos and invite your friends.
