VIGIL MASS FOR FR PENEHE PATELEHIO TONIGHT AT 6PM:

A Vigil Mass will be held tonight at 6pm at Our Lady of Kapiti Church (1 Presentation Way, Paraparaumu) for Fr Penehe Patelehio (Fr Pene), who died earlier this week in Paraparaumu at the age of 67.

A Requiem Mass is to be held on Friday (21 August) at 11am at Our Lady of Kapiti Church. Those unable to attend the Mass can view the livestream at https://www.harbourcityfunerals.co.nz/funerals-tributes/?funeral=ciDpD.

Fr Pene was ordained as a priest by Cardinal Tom Williams in 1987. Please pray for the repose of Fr Pene’s soul, and for comfort and strength for his family, parish community, and all those who mourn his passing.

20/08/2026

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of our much-loved Parish Priest, Fr Pene, on Sunday morning.

Fr Pene became such a valued and loved part of our parish, school and wider community, and his sudden death has been an enormous shock. We give thanks to God for his priesthood, his warmth, and the many ways he served and cared for our community. As we mourn his loss, we entrust him to the mercy and loving care of God and ask Our Lady to pray for him.

Funeral arrangements:

Thursday, 20 August

Vigil Mass: 6.00pm
Our Lady of Kāpiti Church
Followed by a light supper.

Friday, 21 August

Requiem Mass: 11.00am
Our Lady of Kāpiti Church
Followed immediately by a private burial.

Due to the number of family members attending on Friday, parishioners are strongly encouraged to attend the Vigil Mass on Thursday evening, when we can come together as a parish community to pray for Fr Pene and say our final farewells.

Please continue to keep Fr Pene’s family, his brother priests, and all those grieving his loss in your prayers.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen. šŸ¤

āœšŸ‘€ SUPPORT ST VINCENT DE PAUL AT PAK'NSAVE KILBIRNIE šŸ™āœ

High demand means there remains a need to support people in our community.
The next appeal will be on Saturday, 22nd August at PAK'nSAVE Kilbirnie (78 Rongotai Road, Kilbirnie, Wellington 6022).

Volunteers are needed to help with the appeal. Three friendly people will be on each hourly shift throughout the day. You'll either be distributing leaflets to customers, or receiving their donations at the table in the foyer and packing them into boxes and trolley-ing them ā€œout backā€ for later collection in the Vinnies van.

Please do let the Vinnie's Appeal Coordinator know if you are available to help out for an hour - an email with your preferred time of day would be lovely.
