Wellington Cathedral of St Paul

Wellington Cathedral of St Paul Located in Thorndon, Wellington New Zealand, the Cathedral is both a local parish and the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Wellington.

We are grounded in Scripture and the transforming Word of God in the person of Jesus Christ. Situated within the parliamentary precinct of New Zealand's capital city, we are a vibrant and diverse community of people drawn together to worship God through fine liturgy, good music, stimulating preaching and a sense of belonging. I invite you to explore our sacred space. The Cathedral is open to visitors daily 10am - 4pm.

Today the Wellington Combined Society of Bell Ringers rang the Cathedral Bells half muffled in memory of Rei Ngatai (96), the first Māori and first Māori Woman to ring a peal. Rei was a long time ringer at both Wellington Cathedral and Old St Paul's. We are grateful for her long years of service and pray for strength and comfort for her whanau as they prepare to farewell her in the upcoming days.

Tomorrow evening at our 5.30pm Choral Evensong we will say our final goodbye to the wonderful Max Toth, Organ Scholar and latterly Sub Organist of the Cathedral for the last five years. Max leaves next week to take up the Organ Scholar position at Exeter Cathedral in the UK.

Max has been an incredible colleague and friend as well as being a very talented musician, and though we grieve at his departure we can't wait to see where his career will lead him.

As a final gift to us, Max has written a new set of canticles for the Cathedral Choristers, which we will premiere tomorrow night. They absolutely love them, so we will sing them often and think of him!

Do come along tomorrow evening at 5.30pm to send off this fantastic organist.
