St John's In The City Wellington

St John's In The City Wellington We are an inner city Presbyterian Church in Wellington that was founded in 1853. We have a 10am Sunday morning service.

We typically gather in the city for Sunday worship services at 10am, as a diverse bunch feeling forgiven and friendly. St John's gathers in prayer and fellowship to worship God in central Wellington. Through the power of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit we seek to care for and strengthen our members and help them to a growing relationship with God. In this way, just as God cares for us, we seek to

empower our members to share their talents, to meet the needs of those who come to us and those who we can reach out to in the community.

This Sunday we begin the Season of Creation, joining Christians around the world in reflecting on God's wonderful creation.

The theme for 2026 is "Immersion in Living Water," inspired by Ezekiel's vision of a river flowing from God's presence, bringing life wherever it goes.

This reminds us God's salvation is not only as a spiritual reality but the renewal of all creation.

We look forward to worshipping together as we celebrate the God who is the source of all life and who calls us to be faithful stewards of the living waters entrusted to our care.

"The river flows wherever the river goes; everything will live where the river goes." (Ezekiel 47:9)

Our St J’s Kids and young people will go out with their leaders to their peer groups part-way through the service.

After the service we will all share morning tea and coffee in the St John’s Centre.

This Sunday we gather for worship at 10am and we continue the story of Moses (now he’s grown up)

We hear the extraordinary encounter Moses has with a burning bush – our Bible reading is Exodus 3:1–15.

Moses is simply going about an ordinary day when something catches his attention: a bush is burning, but it is not consumed. Moses stops, turns aside and discovers that the place where he is standing is holy ground.
What might this ancient story have to say to us as we live in a world full of competing voices? How do we learn to recognise God's voice, notice God's presence, and hear God's call?

Our St J’s Kids and young people will go out with their leaders to their peer groups part-way through the service.

After the service we will all share morning tea and coffee in the St John’s Centre.

We look forward to worshipping together and discovering again that the ground on which we stand may be holy ground.
