Nau mai haere mai to our new Pou Tikanga, Quin Kingi. We welcomed Quin (Ngāti Awa) to the Wesley whānau this week.

Quin (pictured right with our director David Hanna) has been supporting the mahi in our Te Pae Urungi team so he already has some insight into what we do. We’re looking forward to working with him as we continue our journey to being a Kaupapa te Tiriti organisation.

Many thanks to our previous Pou Tikanga, Tāneora Ryall, for his thoughtful and well-informed contributions (and for his ace online reo lessons!)

Solar panels are now being installed on the roof of the former Strand rest home at Wesley Rātā Village, Naenae as it continues its transformation into Pōhutukawa Apartments – 16 one- and two-bedroom affordable rental units.

The panels will provide power for many of the tenants at the village.

Many thanks to Hutt City Council and the Methodist Church of New Zealand Te Hāhi Weteriana o Aotearoa for providing funding to support this project which is part of our wider mission to reduce our carbon emissions.

We already have solar panels at Wesley House Cannons Creek - Te Hiko and we are slowly increasing our fleet of electric vehicles.

We're loving the new Kai Ora Collective billboard on Taranaki Street!

Wellington Central MP Tamatha Paul did the honours with the ribbon to mark the official launch of the Collective – previously known as Wellington Region Fruit & Vege Co-ops.

We’re looking forward to more people joining the Collective to get fresh, affordable, local produce in their community every week.

The more people who start ordering through one of the Collective’s 10 packing hubs the cheaper the produce – and that’s got to be a win right now as prices keep rising.

Let’s celebrate the power of community, one apple and bunch of silverbeet at a time!

Kai Ora Collective’s Newtown packing hub had a visit from Wellington Central MP Tamatha Paul this morning. She worked alongside volunteer packers helping to fill almost 200 boxes with fresh, affordable local produce.

The Newtown packing hub is one of 10 in the greater Wellington region where wonderful Kai Ora Collective volunteers pack produce for delivery to 39 pick-up locations every week.

They provide fresh kai for more than 1000 households. Why not join them: kaioracollective.nz

We help run the Collective in partnership with Te Whatu Ora / Health NZ.

The fruit & veges must get through! Last week's flooding means that the volunteer packers from Kai Ora Collective's Mt Cook packing hub have had to relocate and join the team in Newtown.
Between them they are supplying 180 households with fruit and veges every Thursday.
The two teams of volunteers will be working together in Newtown for several weeks until the flooded room at the Central Park Apartments is repaired.
Go teams and a big thank you for being so accommodating!

If you're interested in sparking community-led change and you want to learn about "warm data" please join us at the next Te Hiko learning network hui on Thursday 14 May.
Te Hiko, our Centre for Community Innovation, is partnering with Rebecca Sinclair from the Pākehā Project to run the 3-hour Warm Data Lab.
This will provide an antidote to the focus on "cold data" used to make many Government decisions.
We’re excited to bring this process to Aotearoa New Zealand and explore how it brings deeper understanding around how to grow strong communities.
Everyone is welcome. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Friday 8 May.

Check out "Nannies on Fire" grooving to Snoop Dogg affirmations at their weekly strength and mobility session held at our Eastern Suburbs venue.
The Nannies on Fire group, led by Janeen Nowicki, has been getting together for fun, chat, exercise and lots of laughter for about two years. The hour-long session is a chance to get out of the house, make new friends, share some kai and a cup of tea and practice some nifty dance moves.
Janeen, who ran Big Bold and Beautiful exercise classes around Wellington for many years, says dancing along to the Snoop Dogg affirmations is always a highlight: “Everyone loves it and they get cross if we don’t do it.”
The strength and mobility session is held at 11am every Wednesday morning at 56 Hobart Street Miramar. Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to be a Nanny to come!
