Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un

"Verily, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return."

With deep sorrow and submission to the will of Allah SWT, we announce that Mohammed Hanif Ali, beloved husband of the late Sr Johanna Ali, and father of Rehanna Ali and Feroz Ali, passed away peacefully and has returned to the mercy of Allah SWT.

Br Hanif Ali was a cornerstone of the Muslim community in Wellington and New Zealand. He served as a former Secretary-General of FIANZ and as a Council Member of IMAN, dedicating his life to the service of the Ummah.

He played a pivotal role in establishing and supporting many masjids across Wellington, especially Kilbirnie Masjid, and was also one of the pioneers of the halal industry in New Zealand.

His warmth, kindness, and generosity were felt by all. His home was open to everyone, and generations of community members, especially youth, knew him as someone who welcomed, supported, and cared for them.

His lifelong service continued until his final days, reflecting his deep commitment, humility, and love for the community.

May Allah SWT forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaws, illuminate and expand his grave, elevate his rank among the righteous, and grant his family and loved ones patience and strength. Ameen.

Janaza will be held in South Auckland today.

IMAN Community Advisory – 19 February 2026:

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

IMAN has received an update from Police regarding a written threat left at a Refugee Orientation Centre in the Waikato. Alhamdulillah, Police have identified and arrested a suspect, and have advised that there is currently no evidence of any further threats to any person or location.

As we enter the blessed month of Ramadan, we are asking our mosques and community members to remain alert over the coming days as a precaution.

🔹 Please ensure entry points are monitored during peak times
🔹 Report anything suspicious immediately (111 emergencies / 105 non-emergencies)
🔹 Avoid spreading rumours – refer concerns directly to Police

We are liaising closely with NZ Police and FIANZ to ensure awareness and preparedness across our centres.

The Hilal Committee of FIANZ wishes to inform the community that the new moon for Ramadan was not sighted today. Therefore, we will complete the month of Shaban tomorrow (19 February 2026). The month of Ramadan 1447H will begin on Friday, 20 February 2026.

The Hilal Committee extends its warmest greetings to the entire Muslim community of New Zealand as we welcome the blessed month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri. We pray that this sacred month of fasting, prayer, and reflection brings abundant blessings, profound peace, and divine mercy to all.

May Allah (SWT) accept our sincere acts of worship, strengthen the bonds within our community, and guide us steadfastly along the straight path.

🎳WELLINGTON MUSLIM YOUTH (WMY) | PRE-RAMADAN BROTHERS GATHERING

IMAN’s youth group, Wellington Muslim Youth (WMY), with support from FIANZ and the National Islamic Youth Association (NIYA), hosted a special programme for boys from across the Wellington region yesterday.

Alhamdulillah, approximately 100 young brothers came together for an afternoon of bowling, laser tag and mini-golf, followed by dinner and a powerful Ramadan reminder at the Wellington Islamic Centre.

We were especially blessed to have several of our respected elders join us for dinner...those who paved the way for our community and continue to guide and support our youth.

Alhamdulillah for seeing our youth come together in brotherhood, faith, and positive connection.
