Kia hiwa rā! Kia hiwa rā! Pōuri te ngākau, kia kī atu, kua hinga te tōtara nui! Kua hinga atu tēnei kaumatua, tēnei rangatira. Kia hiwa rā! Kia hiwa rā!
It is with a sad heart that I send out this pānui to inform you all of Matua Paora's passing on the 28th of February. Paul Andrew Matthews, known by many of us as Paora or Matua Paora loved the Lord and was a long-standing member of our Church. He was always willing to tautoko and serve alongside the Māori Community at Church and served many years in our Church Choir. We will miss him but are comforted to know that he is now resting with God in the heavens.
A beloved Brother, Father, Koro and Uncle, affectionately known as Goo to his whānau. Matua Paora was the eldest son of Ellen (Erana) Matthews (née Shepherd) of Matarahurahu, Kenana and Bobby (Aterea) Matthews of Te Uri o Tai, Pawarenga and Te Hikutū, Whirinaki. Much aroha to his wife, two sons and eight mokopuna.
He is currently lying in state at his home on Taioma Crescent, Te Atatū Peninsula for one night. Tomorrow morning he will go to Hoani Waititi Marae where he will lay for his last night here in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Saturday the 1st of March 2024 the whānau pani will make their way to Morehu Marae, Pawarenga, where he will rest for his final evening amongst his iwi and be buried Sunday 2nd March 2024 at Potikari, Karoro urupa.
Our hearts are with you Pauline, Robert, Pari, Kalina, Hinewaiora, Huirama, Nukutawhiti, Taikaha, Tikapa, Pheonix, Raivn, Kahutia-Ariki.
Kei Potikari ō wheinga e tatari ana, otirā tō kōtiro, ō mātua, me ō tūpuna ki te pō nui, ki te pō oti atu, auē taukuri e.
