Karma Choeling Buddhist Monastery is a study, meditation and retreat centre nestled in 50 acres of beautiful native bush just an hour north of Auckland, New Zealand. It is
the official New Zealand seat of His Holiness the
17th Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje. It is
administered by the New Zealand Karma Kagyu Trust
(NZKKT) a registered charitable organization. All
staff and helpers at the centre work
on a voluntary
basis, and the income is derived from donations and
membership subscriptions. Karma Kagyu Thigsum Chokhorling (Karma Choeling)
is a study and retreat centre in the Karma Kagyu
tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It was established by
His Holiness, Rigpe Dorje, the 16th Karmapa,
the supreme head of the Karma Kagyu lineage. Karma Choeling continues today under the spiritual
guidance and protection of His Holiness the 17th
Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje, incarnation
of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. His Holiness is particularly
renowned as an accomplished meditation master, and
is the spiritual leader of millions of Buddhists around the world.
