Community Church Service. Sunday 1st March 2026

It was suggested a few years ago that there should be a church service
in Douglas Square, around the matai stump where the first church service in
Rongotea was held in 1878.

A service has now been organised and significantly, Pastor Gavin Scott will be preaching. It was Gavin’s ancestor, Mr W T W Bull (a Methodist lay preacher), who conducted that first service all those years ago!

The service will be held on Sunday 1st March at 10.30am beside
“The Stump” on the Community Centre side of Douglas Square.
Please bring a seat if you wish.

Following the service everyone is welcome to share in a finger food lunch in St Luke’s Hall. Please bring a plate if you are able, although some sandwiches and savouries will be provided.

If the weather is unsuitable, we will have the service at St Luke’s,
cnr Tamar and Thames Streets.

All welcome regardless of whether you’re a church member or not.
