FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness is not pretending the hurt never happened,it is choosing to release the debt instead of demanding repayment.
As Tim Keller said:
“To forgive someone’s debt to you is to absorb the debt yourself... Forgiveness, then, is a form of voluntary suffering. In forgiving, rather than retaliating, you make a choice to bear the cost.”
This is exactly what Christ did for us.
Romans 5:8 declares:
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus absorbed the debt of our sin on the cross so we could be forgiven. When we forgive others, we reflect the heart of the One who first forgave us.
Forgiveness is costly, but freedom is found on the other side of it.
