St Peter's Terrace End - The Beginning

The Anglican Parish of St Peter was the result of the mission from All Saint’s to the east end of town, Terrace End in the 1880s. The original meeting place for our first parishioners was described as a “church room” built in the early 1880s on the corner of Albert Street and Broadway. In August 1900 a decision was made to build a dedicated church building as not only did the church room leak, but it had become too small for the congregation.

Worth a read!

The Lord commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will surely die.”

I find myself intrigued by the injunction not to eat of this tree set in the middle of the Garden of Eden alongside the tree of life. The knowledge of good and evil seems such a desirable attribute to have. We want to be knowledgeable and wise; we want to be discerning; we want to do the right thing...
