For 84 years, Malcolm Davie lived a life of quiet, faithful service.

Family and friends gathered at The Street Church in Wellington last week to celebrate Malcolm's life. He died on August 16, aged 84 – an elder at Vivian Street Gospel Hall since the early 1970s, and a trusted steward for organisations including Stewards', the Missionary Rehabilitation Fund and Johnsonvale Home Trust.

His son Oliver shared:

"When I look at Dad's life, I see the life of quiet, consistent faithfulness to his family, to the people around him, and most of all, to the Lord."

Please keep Malcolm's family in your prayers – his wife Robin, children Oliver and Charlotte, and their families.

Looking back is a chance to give thanks for God’s faithfulness. 🙏

At CCCNZ’s 2025 Annual General Meeting last month, trustees, members and staff gathered to reflect on the past year and the theme of the 2025 Annual Report, ‘Stronger Together’.

CCCNZ’s Board Chair, Chris Broadbent, introduced the theme as a reflection of both the heritage and the calling of the CCCNZ Service Trust:

“CCCNZ exists to serve autonomous churches of Open Brethren Heritage – equipping, connecting, and encouraging them so that the gospel of Jesus Christ continues to be proclaimed faithfully from the Scriptures, generation-to-generation.”

From strengthening churches and developing leaders to growing connections across the wider network, 2025 was a year of seeing God at work. 🙌

Canterbury churches, come join us for Summit Connect! 🙌

Our regional Summit Connect is happening on September 12, 9:30am-4pm at Rutland Street Church, Christchurch. This is a great opportunity to spend a day with other churches from around Canterbury, encouraging one another, opening God’s Word, and thinking about how we can serve well in our churches.

There’ll be a range of breakout sessions throughout the day, with something for people serving in different areas of church life.

How encouraging is it to see churches coming together to encourage one another in following Jesus!

More than 120 people from Grace Church Richmond NZ, Hope Community Church and Tasman Church gathered in Nelson for a Church Summit, sharing fellowship, worship, teaching from Acts, and practical seminars.

What a joy to see these churches partnering together, encouraging one another and keeping Jesus at the centre!

Healthy churches need healthy elderships – and developing future elders is an important part of that. 💛

Over the past year, CCCNZ has been supporting churches through eldership development workshops, bringing current and developing elders together to study Scripture, strengthen their biblical understanding, and think about what it means to shepherd God’s people well.

Please pray for elders across the network of churches as they lead and shepherd their churches, seeking to faithfully serve God and His people. 🙏

What a joy to see women gathering around God’s Word and encouraging one another in the goodness of God. 💛

Women from Kingston Community Church in Palmerston came together at Highland Home Christian Camp in Manawatū on Saturday 15 August for the annual H2H retreat – exploring the theme, The Goodness of God.

Speakers Fay and Sophia helped the group consider God’s goodness, His saving love, provision and mercy – and how we can respond with love, humility and repentance.

“Fay helped us look at a variety of passages in the Bible, considering ways we see God’s goodness displayed through different themes as we explored God’s character. We loved working together to unpack Scripture as we were reminded of what a good God we serve. Sophia spoke from Genesis 1-3 and Luke 7 – exploring how two different women respond to God’s goodness, and how he is consistent in showing his saving love, provision, and mercy.”

What does it look like to invest in the next generation? 🤔

At Auckland Bible Church, 'WIRED' youth group is helping young people grow in faith, build Christian friendships, and learn what it means to lead and serve. Through ABC's internship programme, young leaders are being equipped to serve and grow as leaders while balancing study and other commitments.

As Steve says, “Ultimately, I think we need to be able to step back and let the next generation take the reins.”

It’s encouraging to see young people growing in faith and stepping into opportunities to serve Jesus and His church!

What a joy to see churches coming together around God’s Word. 🙌

For decades Tōtara North Bible Chapel has been hosting mid-winter conferences and inviting other locals to join them.

This year, David Frost from Franklin Bible Church taught from Habbakuk and Matt Shepherd from Wellspring Community Church spoke on how God revealed himself in the Old Testament in ways ordinary people could understand and relate to.

We’re thankful for faithful churches continuing to open God’s Word and encourage one another across generations. ❤️

For more than 40 years, Beth faithfully served her church, family and wider Christian community, often in quiet and practical ways.

Hundreds of people gathered at Matamata Bible Church on Wednesday 12 August to celebrate the life of Beth Bay, who died on August 8, 2026, aged 73, after two strokes. Beth’s family, friends, and church community (Manawarū Bible Chapel) remembered her as a woman whose faith shaped every part of her life, from family and farming to music, administration, adventure, hospitality and quiet practical care.

“Today, we honour her life in which she drew no attention to herself and all the attention to her saviour, Jesus. In truth, Beth lived to be forgotten so that Jesus would be remembered.“

What does it look like to move beyond the “pink fluffy stuff” in women’s ministry?

For Donna and the team at Heretaunga Community Church, Upper Hutt , it means helping women grow as disciples of Jesus – opening God’s Word, learning to teach it, sharing honestly, and encouraging one another in faith.

Donna and Jodie pitched the idea of “Testimonies and Teacups”.

“We kept it really simple. We literally open a packet of biscuits, someone tells their story, then we pray for that person, and then we have some teaching."

What started simply with “Testimonies and Teacups” has grown into a culture of discipleship and the annual Chosen Conference, where women from churches across the country gather to spend time in God’s Word and encourage one another.

We love seeing God use simple, faithful ministry to help women grow deeper in their knowledge and love of Him.
