Rotorua SDA Pathfinders spent the last two weekends at the Tui Ridge log cabins.
The first weekend involved the senior Pathfinders cleaning up the cabins for a service project as they'd fallen into disrepair over the last decade or so, and the second was the rest of the Club staying and competing the Trees Honour π³
The Tui Ridge log cabins were built in 1999 by the Hamilton Pathfinder Club under the guidance of Dave Harrison. The cooking shelter was built later. Although the three cabins looked very tired when we arrived, they are cozy and very dry. Each cabin sleeps 6 (three bunks high) and we also used a small tent and some Pathfinders put up bivouacs to sleep under.
There is also a portaloo long drop that we dug out. Unfortunately you'll need to bring your own water as the previous rainwater tank is no longer there.
Pathfinders used scrubbing brushes and buckets on every surface, then hosed the outsides down with a pressure hose (we borrowed a forestry fire truck!) and applied Wet n Forget at the end. Lots of mowing, weed-eating, tree chopping, window cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing and digging was done.
Contact campmanager@ Tui Ridge Park if your Club wants to stay there! You can walk in (about 400m) from the main driveway or use 4WD vehicles.
