The Sewing Ministry has been in the spotlight this month. We had the chance to hear about the ministry at our Celebration Service earlier this month. They are a group of women who fly under the radar in their service to others. Each Wednesday they meet to chat, but more importantly, to sew beautiful bags for children in underprivileged schools across Auckland. They support six schools and have supplied over 1,500 bags!
After the Celebration Service, Chris Benjamin mentioned how grateful she is for the support they have received from our church community.
"The response has been very positive and encouraging. People have been keen to help. So far we've had a generous financial donation and a promise of another to come. We've had several donations of wool and fabric, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and face cloths. One person has said they will donate some school stationery. We even had a sewing machine that had been given to The Silverdale Men's Shed passed on to us!
So, overall, it was great to be able to explain what we're doing and give others the opportunity to be part of it."
They are getting ready to send out another 100 bags in the next couple of weeks!
