Join Taranaki Cathedral / Te Whare Hononga, Ngāti te Whiti, Central School and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa at Centre City in the old 2 degrees shop for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2026! We will be there 9am-3pm Monday to Friday.

There will be games, performances, language lessons, a te reo Māori Eucharist (communion service) and opportunities to learn your pepeha (how to introduce yourself). There will also be books and merch for sale!

🌸🤖 Spring is here, and in September, leading up to the Feast of St Francis (4 October), our church calendar offers an opportunity to focus on creation and creation care through the Season of Creation.

This year, our theme is Technology, A.I., and Being Human. You might wonder what “tech” has to do with creation and creation care. I think a lot.

Technology, particularly A.I., confronts us with questions about what it means to be human. If A.I. can perform human tasks, sometimes better than us, where does that leave us? What do we think about A.I. companions, people’s growing preference for artificial friendship? What’s at stake as the race to build more sophisticated A.I. continues, and amid tech magnates’ dreams of melding humans with machines? What’s the environmental cost? What does the Christian story have to say about all this?

Earth’s Greatest Enemy is the second feature documentary from journalist and filmmaker Abby Martin (Gaza Fights For Freedom), co-directed with her husband, Iraq War Veteran Mike Prysner. The film investigates the planetary and human cost of the US military which operates 800 military bases around the world. Despite being the largest institutional polluter on the planet, the US military is exempt from international climate agreements.

With testimonies from veterans, scientists and front-line communities, the documentary traces the connections between colonialism, US imperialism and the military-industrial complex as fundamental drivers of the global climate crisis.

Provocative, urgent and eye-opening, this is a documentary that will change how you see both the military and environmentalism.

This event is jointly hosted by Taranaki Cathedral, Climate Justice Taranaki, Palestinian Solidarity Taranaki, Taranaki Quakers and World Beyond Wars Aotearoa.

Yesterday we farewelled our long-standing Office Manager Jennifer Smart as she heads off into retirement!

Across all facets of parish life including the office, the garden, and the cafe, Jen has been the welcoming face of the Cathedral and we will miss her🩷
