Began this morning at 7am at a morning prayer service marking the 200th anniversary of the arrival of Henry Williams in Tauranga. Celebrating with clergy & laity from Tikanga Pākeha & Tikanga Māori Anglican Church, local iwi, descendants of Henry & Marianne Williams & some local dignitaries. Ecumenical too as joined by Catholic bishop.

✨ Mid‑Winter Christmas at St Peter’s ✨

Here at St Peter’s, we’re passionate about creating opportunities for our community to come together in ways that genuinely support those in need.

This year, we’ve placed a strong focus on helping vulnerable families by gathering regular donations for the local food bank — and the support has been fantastic.

We’re starting the evening with a little
social gathering, complete with mulled wine and nibbles, before moving into a cosy, wintry singalong and a beautiful candlelit celebration.

So let’s bring Christmas forward, celebrate joy and thanksgiving in the middle of winter, and raise funds that go directly toward providing meals and support for people experiencing homelessness.

🎼 Reuniting with an old friend…

The folders are packed and the rehearsal pencils are sharpened. This week, our singers opened their copies of Gabriel Fauré’s legendary Requiem for the first time in a few years.

For many of our singers, turning these pages brought back wonderful memories of our last performance of this masterpiece. But returning to a work of this scale is a beautiful challenge — it lets us bring years of new musical growth and depth to a familiar favourite.

This August, the Requiem forms the glowing heart of our French Masters programme, paired with Charpentier’s brilliant and jubilant Te Deum. It’s a concert that celebrates two very different sides of French musical genius: the radiant serenity of Fauré and the vibrant Baroque splendour of Charpentier.

Backed by the incredible Douglas Mews on the organ, this performance is going to be truly special. Stay tuned — tickets drop very soon. 🕊️

Our new billboard is up! 🏳️‍🌈

St Matthew-in-the-City has made a submission opposing the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill, and we want to share why.

This Bill doesn’t fix any real gap in the law. What it does do is write trans, intersex, takatāpui and non-binary New Zealanders out of legal recognition, undoing two decades of protection under the Human Rights Act, and ignoring the Law Commission’s own Ia Tangata recommendations for a better path forward.

We believe every person carries the image of the divine. No exceptions. Legislation that treats anyone as less deserving of protection is a moral failure, not just a legal one.
