Sandra Waldrom who is Executive officer for PW expressed her thanks and gratitude for the support given. Although not much attended from our Plains churches the guest speaker Dr Deborah Bower was very encouraging and inspirational. Her talk was based on the ‘women at the well.’ Drawing from the historical content of the time of women who were outcaste for whatever reason, mainly barren and seen to be cursed by God. She drawed our attention to the time of day this woman attended the well. The time for those who are seen as outsiders to draw water from the well. Jesus sees us for who we are, our true condition. He knows our pain and hurt and wants to heal us. Sandra Waldrom encourages women to join PW to have our voice of concerns heard whether in parliament or other. PW are also encouraging younger women to join as they bring their own concerns and ideas to PW. Thanks and acknowledgement goes to our Rakaia parish for hosting the gathering. for the wonderful morning tea and lunch and for your collective efforts and work. It was a positive blessed gathering.

James 2: 14-17

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

Brrr… winter is sinking in pretty fast. For my household, the log burner has been constantly burning. Hot beverages and soup is a welcoming soothe for the soul, but I think about some families in our community who may not be so blessed with a warm insulated home. Having to find other ways or means to keep warm when they are unable to financial cope with the demands of life. You may know of families who needs assistance during this winter chill. Please let me know and if we as a church can help, we will. The reading of James challenges us to put our faith in action by responding to the needs of others.
