This morning, around 50 men gathered around the tables for our Community Father’s Day Men’s Breakfast! 🙌🏽

It was a special morning honouring our men, while remembering the men who have poured into our own lives, and who have helped shape the who we are today. We were blessed with some awesome music from Joe, and Phil shared a powerful testimony from his own journey. Thank you, Phil, for being vulnerable and for speaking life and faith into the room. Thank you to the ladies who cooked in the kitchen today and served the men, we very much appreciated it!

May we continue to see mighty men of God rising, standing together and speaking life into one another.🫱🏼‍🫲🏾

What a beautiful Enrolment Sunday! 🙌🏼
Today, 7 of our Corps whānau were enrolled as Adherents and Soldiers. What an honour it was to witness each of them stepping out in faith and obedience to where God has called them.

One of our new Soldiers, Louise, shared her powerful testimony. As a young child, she was picked up and brought along to The Salvation Army Sunday School. Years later, in the midst of battling alcohol addiction, she found herself back at The Salvation Army through the Bridge Programme. It was there that she encountered Jesus Christ and, through Him, found true freedom.

Then, in February last year, Louise walked through the doors of Wairarapa Salvation Army and knew God had brought her home. Today, she stood before us, loving Jesus with her whole being, enrolled as a Soldier and committing to serving His mission through the Sallies: a beautiful full-circle moment.

While each of the seven has a different story, today was a reminder that God is still calling people, transforming lives, and inviting ordinary people to wholeheartedly follow Him. Whether enrolling as an Adherent or a Soldier, each person took a courageous step of faith, publicly declaring their commitment to Jesus and His mission.

We are so excited to see how God continues to raise up His Army here in the Wairarapa, and what a privilege it is to do Kingdom life together as whānau. All glory to God! ❤️

This morning we held our 18th Men's Breakfast at Wairarapa Sallies!🥓🍳☕️

On the first Saturday of every month, men from across the Wairarapa are invited to come along for a hearty cooked breakfast, great conversation, and genuine fellowship with other local men.

Over the past 18 months, this breakfast has continued to grow, with different men volunteering each month to cook and serve breakfast. We're so grateful to every man who has come along - whether you've cooked, helped behind the scenes, or simply turned up and been part of it. Together, you've created such a welcoming and special space for men to be. It's become more than just breakfast - it's a place of faith, connection, encouragement, and belonging.

Thanks to everyone who joined us this morning. If you haven't been before, we'd love to see you at the next one!🫱🏼‍🫲🏾

Last weekend, a group of six from our Corps had the privilege of attending the Reading Through Scripture short course at Booth College of Mission NZ. Alongside others from across the country, they spent the weekend exploring what the Bible is, how to engage with it faithfully, and diving into key teachings from the books of Mark and Galatians. They were encouraged to slow down, sit with the Scriptures, explore their context, and consider how God's Word speaks into our own lives today.

It was a rich weekend filled with inspiring teaching from a range of lecturers (David Wells even came out of retirement to generously share his wisdom and experience), meaningful fellowship, delicious kai (thank you, Chef Dean and Team!), engaging deeply with God's Word, learning from one another, and making space for fresh revelation and a deeper hunger for Jesus.🔥

A huge thank you to the CLD (Centre for Learning & Development) team for your ongoing commitment to equipping Salvationists through learning and study, and for creating opportunities like this for people to grow as disciples in the way of Jesus and His Kingdom. They came home encouraged, challenged, and inspired to keep reading, studying, and living out God's Word.🙌🏼

A couple of weeks ago we had the privilege of welcoming the Central Fellowship Band to the Wairarapa. What a beautiful day it was as they shared the hope of the Gospel through music, the Word, and heartfelt service. 🎷🎶

A huge thank you to the band and all who travelled to minister to us. Your ministry was a real encouragement and blessing to our Corps and community. A special thank you as well to Major David Bennett for bringing the encouraging message. We are so grateful for your willingness to come and serve.

Kia ora e te whānau!

Please note there will be no service at Wairarapa Corps this Sunday.

Instead, we’d love for you to join us as churches from across the Wairarapa gather together to celebrate Pentecost!

This Sunday
10AM
Wairarapa College Hall

We’re also excited to have guest speaker Rev Caleb Rowe with us, National Leader for New W**e NZ - it’s going to be a powerful morning together, so be in the house!

There will be kids programmes and a creche available, so bring the whole whānau and come worship together as one Church.

A huge thank you to Equippers Church for hosting and creating such a beautiful, peaceful space for 24/7 prayer this week as we prepare our hearts for Pentecost. It has truly been a blissful place to sit in the presence of the Lord.

Calling all the ladies to come join us this Saturday evening✨️

We’d love to have you along for our Real Life Women’s Evening this Saturday 16 May, 6pm at The Salvation Army Wairarapa.

We’ll start with dinner, a chance to sit together, share kai, connect and enjoy some good company. Then we’ll hear from our special guest Rose Hotene.

Rose is a māmā of two, originally from Taranaki and now based in Flat Bush, serving with The Salvation Army as a Mission Officer. She carries such a genuine heart to see people encounter the love of Jesus — the kind of love that restores, heals, and brings hope.

She’ll be sharing her story - the real stuff. Life, addiction, overcoming hardship, and how God has met her through every season with grace and faithfulness.

Come along for a relaxed evening of connection, good company, and hearing a powerful story of hope and transformation. Bring a friend, bring a sister - all are welcome.🫶🏼

Last week was our annual Red Shield Street Appeal, and what a week it was!🎉

Thank you to our 39 wonderful collectors who gave their time across Wairarapa: Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, and Featherston.

Thank you to our seven collection sites for opening your doors to us: The Warehouse Masterton, Woolworths Masterton, New World Masterton, Mitre 10 Masterton, New World Carterton, FreshChoice Greytown, and FreshChoice Featherston.

Thank you to the wonderful Fernridge School for holding a non-uniform day to support the appeal for another year!

Thank you to all our staff and volunteers including at our Family Stores in Masterton and Carterton for supporting and collecting on top of what you already do. To those who were working behind the scenes, even weeks before the appeal to prepare and help everything run smoothly.

And finally, a special thank you to our amazing community here in the Wairarapa - for your generosity, your conversations, and your support. Every single bit helps, and we are so grateful for your giving, which helps support the wrap around services provided through The Salvation Army for whānau in need.

Together, we make a difference. ❤️

Hari Rā Māmā 💐

Such a beautiful family day at our Sallies Playhouse playgroup this morning as we honoured our incredible mums, aunty mums, grandmothers, and all the family members who make our playgroup community such a special place of connection, fun, and growth for our tamariki and whānau.

It was so sweet seeing all the tamariki bring along their favourite teddy bears for our teddy bears picnic and song time! There were lots of smiles all around. 🧸

A big thank you to Helen, Bruce, Maria and the team for all you do every week, to create such a welcoming space where whānau can belong together. We’re grateful for the love and care you pour into our community. 🐝

Today our young people led such a beautiful Mother’s Day service! 💐

They prayed for all women, especially those who Mother’s Day may not be easy for. They prayed for women who had loving Mothers and for those who didn’t. They prayed for women whose Mothers are no longer with us, and gave thanks for the mothers doing it alone, foster mothers, aunty mothers, and spiritual mothers who help shape and nurture lives with love and care. ❤️

Our young people also led a skit about “the cost” - the cost parents carry and what children sometimes think they’re owed 😂, then they pointed us to the one who paid the ultimate price for us all: Jesus 🙌🏼

They then interviewed five Mothers about their motherhood journey: the joys, challenges, lessons learnt, how they overcame difficult seasons, and the biblical women and scriptures that inspired them along the way. There were tears, laughter, wisdom, and so much encouragement shared across generations.

We finished the day gathered together over a wonderful lunch served by our incredible men in the kitchen this morning. What a special day celebrating the strength, faith, love, and sacrifice of the women and mothers in our lives. 🌸
