In January 2026, members from the Taranaki District and the Palmerston North, Porirua, and Wellington & Hutt Stakes are invited to attend the annual Ratana Commemoration Celebrations at Rātana Pā, joining Te Pōwhiri mō ngā Hāhi (the pōwhiri welcoming religious groups). These celebrations honour the birth and legacy of Tahupōtiki Wiremu Ratana, founder of Te Hāhi Ratana, and provide an opportunity to strengthen ties between our two churches.

The pōwhiri is expected around 23 January (date to be confirmed), and further details on logistics and cultural etiquette will follow. Please register interest with Ben Matthews ([email protected]) by mid-January so numbers can be confirmed. We look forward to celebrating whanaungatanga at Rātana Pā.

Blessed Temple in Savai'i Samoa

A rendering of the exterior of the Savai'i Samoa Temple has been released. The 29,630-square-foot house of the Lord will be constructed on a 4.6-acre site located next to the Don Bosco College and Vocational Technical Center at Lot 1098 to Lot 1105 in Fataloa, a subarea of Salelologa village on the southeast coast of Savai’i. NEWS RELEASE
Elder Taniela B. Wakolo, First Counselor in the Pacific Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking event for the Wellington New Zealand Temple on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The temple will be constructed on a 3.35-acre site located near Okowai Road and Whitford Brown Avenue in the Aotea neighborhood of Porirua. Plans call for a two-story temple of approximately 14,900 square feet and an ancillary building with arrival facilities and patron housing. (Rendering: Intellectual Reserve, Inc.)

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wellington New Zealand Temple. The McKinney Texas Temple has also been renamed.
