Dear Community Members

The Mytilenian Association has organised a movie fundraiser of The Odyssey at the Penthouse Brooklyn on Sunday 2 August 2026, at 2pm.

Please refer to the attached flyer for all the details. There will also be spot prizes on the day.
It would be wonderful if members of our community were able to support the Association by attending what promises to be a great afternoon.

Before his death, Saint Nectarius had been suffering from a serious form of cancer for a long time and hid his disease. When it became impossible to conceal his suffering, he was sent to an Athens hospital. Treatment was required, but there was no money.

Looking at the little, simply dressed old man suffering from pain, the on-duty nurse asked: "Is he a monk?"

He is a bishop, replied the sister accompanying him.

For the first time, I see a bishop without a panagia, a golden cross, and most importantly, without money, the servant remarked.

The saint was placed in a third-class ward for the dying. He spent another two months in torment. On the feast day of Archangel Michael and all the Heavenly Hosts, God called him to Himself.

Miracles started happening right there in the hospital. A paralyzed man lay in the room with the saint. When Saint Nectarius died, before washing his body, the staff took off his shirt and moved the paralyzed person closer to the saint. They placed the hands of the sick man on the saint, and the paralyzed man immediately stood up, healed.

Immediately after his passing, the body of the saint began to exude a myrrh-like fragrance. When his coffin was brought to Aegina, the whole island came out to see off its saint. The people carrying his coffin noticed that their clothes and hands smelled sweet.

From the life of St. Nectarios of Aegina.

Saint Nectarios of Aegina is prayed to for healing from various serious illnesses, especially cancer, and for help with financial difficulties.

Dear Members

Sunday 7th of June 2026, we will be holding our monthly Divine Liturgy at St Nektarios Church starting at 8.30am.

As we do each year around the anniversary of our church's consecration (05/06/1977), we will hold a memorial service for the members of our community who have fallen asleep.

Following the service, tea and coffee will be served, and you are welcome to bring a plate to share.

This year's memorial will also include a special remembrance to Father Yianni Tourlitis, the first priest of St Nektarios, who passed away suddenly during Easter 2026.

May their memory be eternal.

A Memorial Service for His Eminence will take place at the Cathedral of the Annunciation, Hania Street, Wellington, at 8:00am on Sunday, 22 February 2026. Many of you may wish to attend and join in prayer for the repose of his soul.

Dear Community Members

With deep sorrow, yet with faith in the Resurrection, we inform you of the falling asleep in the Lord of His Eminence Geronda Amfilochios, our former Archbishop and devoted shepherd of the faithful.

His Eminence served Christ and His Holy Church with humility, love, and unwavering devotion for many years. He was a spiritual father to countless faithful, a source of wisdom and guidance, and a tireless servant of Orthodoxy whose legacy will remain in our hearts and communities.

We offer our heartfelt prayers for the repose of his soul and give thanks to God for his life, his ministry, and his example of faith.

May the Lord grant him rest among the saints and may his memory be eternal.

Due to the forecast of bad weather this Sunday, we have decided to postpone our picnic to the following week, Sunday 22 February 2026.

As Sunday 22 February 2026 is Cheesefare Sunday, we will mark the occasion by adjusting our menu slightly, replacing meat with fish and squid rings.

We look forward to gathering together and seeing you all in a week's time.

Kind regards
