A Testament of Loyalty and Commitment

Ruth and Naomi, two women bound by grief and a shared history of loss, stood together under the sun-scorched fields of Moab. Famine and death had stricken their family, and Naomi had chosen to return to her homeland of Judah.

Before Ruth, a young Moabite widow, lay two paths: one, to stay in the familiar comfort of her home country, and another, an uncertain journey into the unknown land of Judah. In Moab, the people did not serve the God of Judah, the God Naomi served, and the God who we serve today.

Ruth’s mother-in-law, Naomi, pleaded with her to seek a new life among the Moabites, where she would be welcomed and accepted, but would not worship God. Instead, Ruth embraced her mother-in-law. “‘Where you go, I will go,” Ruth said, “Your people will be my people, your God my God. Death alone shall part us.'”

Each one of us will face choices that demand commitment beyond the ordinary. The question is clear: What principles will guide your decisions? Ruth's journey encourages us to boldly declare our allegiances, not just in words but in the deliberate actions that shape our lives and honor God.

What a powerful story where commitment, dedication and important decisions were made. Therefore, this story of Ruth and Naomi reminds us of how important it is to have strong connections and positive relationships with each other. The decision made was based on previous experiences where love and care were embraced.

I pray that we will continue making connections and stay connected with our loved ones and make Jesus the centre of influence so that our decisions will be based on principles.

What would it look like for you to embrace a life marked by a steadfast commitment to God’s leading? We all will leave a legacy for those who walk behind us. Will yours be a testament of loyalty to God?

God of All Creation

All of world history is characterized by periods of time when dominant nations ruled large portions of the earth. Intermixed with the various kingdoms and dynasties are notable wars and battles that have scarred the earth.

Amidst the rise and fall of various earthly powers, it can be easy to forget that the Lord stands in power above everything else. Even though God’s kingdom is not as visible right now, He still guides and shapes the course of history.

It is a comforting reminder that all of the earth is the Lord’s. Nothing that happens on earth surprises Him.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the earth, thus everything ultimately belongs to Him. He sets the boundaries for every nation, and He determines where the oceans begin.

This doesn’t mean that God forces everyone and everything to do good all of the time. People are still capable of evil, and the world is still filled with pain and suffering.

But, this means that God ultimately rules over everything in creation. Even in the midst of evil, pain, and suffering, God is working behind the scenes to bring about goodness in everything. While we may not experience this fully in our lifetime, in the end God will eventually make everything right.

Take some time to consider God’s powerful place in all of creation as the Lord over everything that exists. Thank Him for His guiding hand in your own life. You can trust that God has control over the creation that He created, even in the midst of dark and trying times.

Remembered by God

People may forget your good deeds, but God never will.

Maybe they never said thank you.
Maybe they never publicly honored your service.
Maybe they never remember what you did…

People may forget our good deeds, but God never will.

Sometimes, we may wonder if our good deeds matter or will ever be acknowledged.
Hebrews 6:10 reassures us that the God who blesses a faithful life will never forget our acts of kindness and service.

Think of it this way: God has a perfect memory, and He sees, knows, and remembers every act of obedience done in His name even if the world labels it a failure or considers you a fool. Your just and faithful God is taking note, and He will reward you. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”
Hebrews 6:10 NIV

So, when you're tempted to think your efforts go unnoticed or unappreciated. When you feel forgotten or overlooked. When you’re tempted to think that what you contribute doesn’t matter, remember and hold on to the promise of Hebrews 6:10. Because God won’t forget your kindness, your faithfulness, and your service.

People may forget your good deeds, but God He never will.

Just Say Yes
“Whenever God asks you to do something for Him, just say yes,” my mentor and Bible teacher often used to say. “If you say no, the opportunity may pass to someone else. Would you really want to miss out on the blessing?”

I would usually smile, unsure how to respond. But deep down, I truly wanted to say yes whenever God called me.

I now call my mentor Mum, and her words have stayed with me over the years.

A few years ago, I visited a church where we had been singing and waiting for a long time, unsure as to what was happening. Eventually it became clear that the pastor would be unable to attend because of an emergency, and there were no substitutes to deliver the sermon. Then a church member stood up to share the message. She explained that she always tried to stay ready in case she was ever asked to preach. So, when the opportunity came unexpectedly, she simply said yes.

As we travelled home, I kept thinking about her willingness. Would I have been ready to speak about my faith at such short notice? Would you?

First Peter 3:15 encourages us to always be ready to give an answer for the hope within us. Being ready does not necessarily mean having a perfect sermon or knowing all the answers. It may simply mean sharing what God has done in our lives, offering encouragement, praying with someone, or explaining why our relationship with Jesus matters.

My sister and I continued talking about the message that day. We imagined what might have happened if that woman had not stepped forward. Some of our imagined scenarios were so funny that we laughed until we cried.

But beneath the laughter was gratitude. God had provided someone to share a blessing with the church, and she had been willing to say yes.

I am still reflecting on this, but I think Mum was right. Saying yes is not only about what we give. It is how we get to share in the blessing.

New Mercies

Your eyes opened this morning. The sun has risen again. Your heart is still beating. Your lungs are inhaling fresh oxygen. You are here, you are alive, and your life has intrinsic value.

It’s true.

But this fractured world tries to beat us down, which can feel all-consuming at times. Our relationships are far from perfect, our desires are bent toward selfishness, and sometimes the everyday grind can feel like too much.

The author of Lamentations, traditionally identified as Jeremiah (though His name isn’t stated explicitly), is known as the “weeping prophet” constantly undone because of the heartbreaking sin of his people and their open disregard for their Creator. The book is full of grief, distress, and lament. But still, he confidently writes:

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:21-23‬ ‭ESV

Even though God’s people had rebelled, even though the strength of Israel was gone and they were facing the consequences of their idolatry, even though their unfaithfulness was making their lives fall apart…

God still poured out His steadfast love. God still showed off His endless mercy. God still lavished His people with His constant faithfulness.

That is why they were not consumed. And that is why we still have hope.

If you’ve run from God, ignored His good design, disregarded His warnings, purposely rebelled against Him, or simply chose to forget His existence all together, it’s not too late to turn back.

God doesn’t ignore those who come to Him. He doesn’t dismiss those with a humble and repentant heart. He is patiently and faithfully waiting for those who will return to Him.

It’s great to know that each day It comes with privileges and blessings and God has a lot of things prepared for each one of us. I pray that we will enjoy each new day with God knowing that He is faithful and cares for us daily.

He Will Lead the Way 🙏

Moses led the people of Israel for forty years. He led them out of slavery in Egypt, through the Red Sea, delivered the Ten Commandments from his time with God on Mount Sinai, and walked with them through the wilderness until they reached the edge of Canaan.

But as he neared the end of his life, God showed Moses that it was time to hand off leadership to another. In a final address to the people of Israel, he shares these final words with his successor, Joshua:

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

This is the last record we have of Moses talking to Joshua. Notice he didn’t say, “Good luck, these people are exhausting,” or, “Here’s a situation going on, I would handle it this way.” Moses wasn’t telling Joshua about how to do something, but instead, how to see everything.

Moses drew Joshua’s attention to the most important part of the story: God. Moses had been a crucial leader, but it was only because of God that Israel could move forward. It was only because of God that they made it this far. And because God is the author of the story, His provision would continue after Moses is gone.

Because God was with Israel, Joshua didn’t need to fear anything. And when God is with you, there is nothing to fear. He will lead the way.

Let There Be Light

The word “light” appears hundreds of times in the Bible. It first appears just three verses into the first book, Genesis, during the creation story:

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.”
Genesis 1:3-4 NIV

Later, when the prophet Isaiah foretold Jesus’ coming, he framed the Messiah as a “great light” that would dawn on those who were “walking in darkness” (Isaiah 9:2). Jesus fulfilled the prophecy in John 8:12 when He declared, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Darkness cannot exist where there is light. Genesis 1 says that God separated the light from the darkness that covered a formless, empty earth because the two things cannot coexist. And the same is true of sin and perfection. The world fell into darkness when sin entered it.

But the world wasn’t completely consumed by darkness we were only separated from God. That’s why He sent Jesus, the Great Light, to guide us back to Him.

Just as a flame burns brightly, its fire also spreads. When He returned to Heaven, Jesus gave us His Spirit, so that we might also be light to others! The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:8, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”

As a child of light, you can be a light in our dark world by the way you live, speak, and act.

Ask yourself:

How will I continue to walk in step with Jesus as my guiding light?

What will I do to be a light in my world?

Who will I share His light with today?

How can you shine God’s light today?

Not only did God create light - He is Light. And He wants His light to shine through you and me.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the gift of light in our lives. Help us to embrace your Word as our guiding light and share Your truth in a world that often dwells in darkness. Amen.
