Join the Working Bee, Operation Refresh, at our Historic St. Bartholomew's Church, 23 Cass St, Kaiapoi.

We have reviewed and repaired issues around the building.

Now is the time to Refresh this special building both Inside and Outside with some TLC (Tender Loving Care) on Saturday 29 March at 9.30am. Your TLC is important to the Parish.

It was the 1932 Olympics, and competitors in the 3,000-meter race were coming around the bend for the final lap. Unfortunately, an official was gazing in the wrong direction and therefore neglected to ring the bell to signal the last lap. After the athletes crossed what should have been the finished line , they just kept on running. The favourite to win, a Finn named Volmari Iso-Hollo, wound up first, but because he ran an extra 450 meters before the official snapped out of his senior moment, he registered the slowest ever time for the 3,000

At least the 2024 olimpics are a bit more orginized

During a meeting of county commissioners, the controller in Reading , Pennsylvania, complained that her computer hadn’t worked in two years, and that during the entire time she had been forced to use a typewriter for all her letters and memos. She probably would had grounds for some legal action had it not been for the discovery soon after that she had forgotten to plug in her computer

Maybe should have called in some of our young people to help. the problem would have been fixed sooner

This weeks Friday Funny.

Two escaped prisoners from Marble Valley, Vermont, were forced to abandon a stolen car when a police officer approached them. Inside was a very helpful list the forgetful fugitives had written to help them remember what to do: “Drive to Maine, get safer place to stay, buy guns, get Marie, get car—Dartmouth, do robbery, go to New York.” The prisoners were later picked up in Manhattan getting off a Maine-to-New York bus.

When resurfacing a road in Bath, England, a contractor accidentally paved over the steel cover of an underground fire hydrant. This made it impossible to reach the hydrant in an emergency. Consequently, a firefighter was given the important job of locating it by using a metal detector. When the device first signalled the presence of metal, the fireman dug a shallow hole in the pavement, expecting to find the cover. But strangely, it wasn’t there. So he tried again and again—guided each time by the metal detector’s signal. It was only after digging seven holes in the road that he remembered that his boots had steel toe caps, which had set off the detector with each step he took—again and again
