Quotes from Salvation Army Generals

'There's a sense in which God is calling us as His people to position ourselves to be ready for what it is that he needs us to be and to do in the world these days.'

If we could truly see what happens in the spiritual realm every time we pray, we would never stop praying. While our eyes see only silence, heaven sees movement. While we feel weak, God is working. Every sincere prayer rises before the throne of God, and every cry of faith is heard by the One who never sleeps nor slumbers.

Many believers give up because they do not immediately see results. But the Bible reminds us that there are battles taking place beyond what human eyes can see. When Daniel prayed, God answered from the very first day, yet spiritual opposition delayed the visible answer (Daniel 10:12-13). This teaches us that unanswered prayers are not always ignored prayers. Sometimes God is working behind the scenes, fighting battles we know nothing about.

The enemy wants you to believe that your prayers are powerless, but Scripture tells us otherwise. Prayer moves the heart of God, strengthens the believer, and releases God's power into impossible situations. A praying Christian is never fighting alone. Heaven's armies stand ready at God's command, and His angels minister according to His will.

Do not stop praying for your family. Do not stop praying for your children. Do not stop praying for your church. Do not stop praying for your nation. The prayer you pray today may be the breakthrough someone receives tomorrow. The tears you shed in secret may become the testimony you share in public.

When you kneel before God, you are standing against darkness. When you worship in the middle of your struggle, you are declaring that God is greater than your circumstances. When you continue praying despite delays, you are demonstrating faith that pleases God.

Keep praying when you are tired. Keep praying when you are discouraged. Keep praying when nothing seems to change. God hears every word, sees every tear, and remembers every act of faith. The battle belongs to the Lord, and victory comes to those who trust Him.

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

You are not alone. Not ever. The season after Pentecost reminds us that God has come close—not just in the incarnation, in the person of Jesus showing us God’s own self embodied, but *within* us. As close as our breath. In every moment.

And yet, there are times we feel very alone. Misunderstood, passed by, unseen, unknown. In our world that we can taste and see, it can be difficult to trust this unseen, untasted reality of God-with/within-us.

Or perhaps on some level we trust that this is, in fact, the reality—we believe this theologically; but when the rubber meets the road, we aren’t sure how it makes any difference. We still look pretty alone, in our estimation. Are still the one carrying the weight of the grief, the confusion, the disorientation.

Our tendency in these moments can be to spiritually bypass those disorienting feelings, pretending to ourselves and God that they aren’t there, that they don’t matter when we “know” these Pentecost truths.

But what if, instead, we noticed that part of us that pipes up with a “but I feel just as alone as ever in this”. What if we listened in, welcomed that part of us that feels that way? What if in even acknowledging that experience, it made space for God to be-with that part of us—in ways that might not be possible to experience, when we are hiding those feelings even from ourselves? What if Pentecost means the Spirit is with those deeper-than-you-are-generally-aware-of parts even before you are? What would it be to say ‘yes’ to the reality of that withness today?
