The Anglican Indigenous Network (AIN) is meeting in Adelaide, Australia, from 4 to 7 September 2026, ending a seven-year hiatus in face-to-face gatherings.

“We’ve all been progressing Te Oranga Ake (flourishing), but it is time to reconnect as AIN to face new shared challenges,” said Archbishop Don Tamihere.

Earlier this month, The Very Reverend Ruihana Paenga was installed as the Dean of the Cathedral of Waiapu in Napier.

The joint appointment by Archbishop Don Tamihere and Bishop of Waiapu Andrew Hedge also means Ruihana become the first Dean of Te Pīhopatanga o Aotearoa, and one of only a few Māori to hold such a position in the Anglican Church.

Shortly after General Synod | Te Hīnota Whānui concluded in Tonga on Thursday, Archbishop Sione Ulu'ilakepa reflected on the historic first Synod hosted in the Kingdom of Tonga. Over 200 delegates and guests from across Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia were in attendance of the hui.

With the theme of One Mission, One Ocean, One Vaka, General Synod heard from members of the Sails4Hope waka voyage which is making its way across the Province of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Crew member Kakala Tevi spoke about her experience earlier this year on the vaka Uto ni Yalo sailing around Fiji.

Tēnā koutou, Aukaha News, i tēnei kaupapa whakahirahira mō Te Mātāmua o ngā Pīhopa Māori, mō Pīhopa Fredrick Bennett.

A touching story of a prayer book belonging to Bishop F. A. Bennett being returned to his whānau after almost eighty years. The prayer book was gifted to a young Fred Bennett in 1886; he carried it with him throughout his life and contains many handwritten memoirs of his travels around Aotearoa and the world. A reminder of the enduring connections between faith, whakapapa, and generations past and present.

The General Synod began on Sunday with a celebration of Eucharist. His Majesty King Tupou VI spoke to the congregation, that included delegates, guests, members of the Royal Family and the Prime Minister of Tonga, Fatafehi Fakafānua.
