30 August - 10am - Pentecost 14 - Andrew Nicol, Richie Brown. The reading is Genesis 45: 1-8.. A copy of the Order of Service is attached.

Evening service - 7pm - in the church with the choir- led by Jay Robinson. The readings are Romans 12:9-21 and Matthew 16:21-28. The choir will perform Casciolini's "Kyrie", "Crucufixus", "Sanctus" and "Agnus Dei" as part of the service.

Keep Dunedin Beautiful
Knox Church received a Highly Commended award in the Community section of the Keep Dunedin Beautiful Awards last Friday. Congratulations to all those involved in making this possible.

Congregational Forum 13 September The Knox Ministry Settlement Board is beginning to consult with the congregation to gather input into the shape of future ministry at Knox Church. The MSB is inviting the congregation’s feedback on Knox’s key values, the challenges and opportunities before Knox and the sorts of characteristics for a future ministry. Along with consultation with Knox committees and groups , everyone is invited to a congregational forum on September 13th to provide input on these themes. IN addition to this, there will be a survey circulated at the end of September where everyone is invited to offer further feedback.

Sacramental Reality - 4 Talks on Art by Judith Brown. Tuesdays: August 25, September 1,8 & 15, 7-8pm.
Stevely Room, Church Office Block, First Church of Otago, Moray Place.
Sacramental Reality is a series of that explores what it means to partake of sacramental reality in the forms of culture. The unifying idea is that art is a primary vehicle for moving beyond the mindset that reduces truth to the factual. For the sake of manageability the content is limited to the visual arts. In exploring this the talks will consider the self-portrait, what a work of art is formed of, and the experience of belonging and connection.
The art works will include both representational and abstract examples and there is substantial NZ
Content. People may attend individual talks, or all four. Free Admission

Organ Concert 30 August - David Burchell is giving a concert in the Town Hall featuring organ showpieces by Whitlock, Muschel, Schmidt, Widor and others. 3pm.

The Contentious Presbyterianism Forum will be held Saturday 29 August 10am-3pm, in the Frank Nichol Room at Knox College in Dunedin. Jim Veitch and Niki Francis are keynote speakers, with the Dunedin launch of Jim’s book, Lloyd Geering: Prophet or Heretic? Martin George Holmes, Mike Grimshaw, and Terry Pouono will also be speaking, and Alofa Lale and Yvonne Wilkie will be contributing to the panel discussion. A plattered lunch will be provided. Morning tea starts from 9:15am. A $10 koha on the day is suggested.
Zoom livestreaming will be available for each of the day’s sessions, so you may join us in person or online.

Gibson Talk Series 3 - Celebrating 150th anniversary of Mornington Methodist Church. Dr Peter Lineham MNZM "The Methodist Approach to Church Structure" - following its roots in English Methodism to its lively Otago offshoots and what this means for churches today. Wednesday 26 August, 7pm, Mornington Methodist Church (corner of Galloway and Whitby Streets). Admission: $5 or other koha. All welcome.
Emeritus Professor Peter Lineham MNZM is a well-known historian specialising in church history. He has written and lectured extensively on the religious history of NZ, and is a regular and highly respected commentator on religious matters in NZ.

During the service on 16 August, we will be passing around clipboards inviting you to indicate your willingness to assist with the tasks on the list. The tasks are mostly carried out in pairs or teams of 4-8. It is an opportunity for you to become involved in what needs to happen to enable Knox to be a welcoming and friendly community. None of the tasks are onerous. The more involved means the less time you are likely to be rostered on. We plan to review this in January and then prepare an annual set of rosters if everyone is still willing to be involved. We will do this by asking if you wish to continue and when might you not be available. Don't worry, you can volunteer for 6 months, 1 year or more. We will work around your other commitments such as examinations, semester breaks, holidays, work commitments. Alison Tait

Helpers with Supper / Welcoming - Peace Sunday 9 August - Evening Service
There is a special Peace Sunday service in the church on Sunday 9 August at 7pm. It is being led by Greg Hughson and Adam Baker (new Methodist Minister). RSA choir will be singing. People from other parishes have been invited. There will be supper afterwards. Knox is hosting this so it would be really helpful to have a team (3-4) who could set up the supper and clean up afterwards. There is no need to bring food as that has been organised, however if you so wish it would be appreciated.
If you could assist with welcoming people that also would be really appreciated. Please let Alison Tait know if you could help.

Mission Support - Hamish McIntosh, one of our young adults and a new member of Knox Church, is seeking support as he applies to take part in a mission trip to Nepal with The Leprosy Mission. This 10-day immersive experience brings together a group of 8–10 university students each year to learn about the causes and consequences of leprosy, spend time with people and communities affected by the disease, and support the work of The Leprosy Mission in Nepal. During the trip, participants will visit community self-help groups, meet families affected by leprosy, and gain a deeper understanding of both the challenges they face and the hope that comes through this ministry. If you are able to support Hamish financially, he would be very grateful. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help make this opportunity possible. Hamish will share more about the trip during Sunday's morning service.

The Reluctant Dragon by John Rutter - Saturday, 8 August 4pm & 7.30pm Otago Boys' High School Auditorium.
A dramatic family musical entertainment featuring City Choir Dunedin, DYO strings, Teddy Finney Waters and Joseph Kelly; Musical Director David Burchell, Artistic Director Jenny Burchell. Come and enjoy Rutter's setting of Kenneth Grahame’s whimsical story about a dragon who appears from a cave and the villagers call for St George to rid them of the terrible beast. But this isn't an ordinary dragon. Neither the dragon nor St George like fighting. What will they do?
