Today marks the first day of LENT (Ash Wednesday).
Lent is a time of reflection, repentance, and preparation for Easter (the biggest event on the church calendar!)
Traditionally lasting 40 days (excluding Sundays), it commemorates the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert, enduring temptation. The importance of Lent lies in its call for spiritual renewal and growth, encouraging believers to deepen their relationship with God through practices such as fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. By abstaining from certain luxuries or engaging in acts of charity, individuals are reminded of the sacrifices of Jesus and are inspired to cultivate virtues like humility and compassion. Lent serves as a powerful reminder of the core tenets of Christianity, urging believers to focus on inner transformation and the celebration of resurrection and new life at Easter.
We would like to invite you to join us by reading a Lent devotional starting on 5 March as a way to prepare your heart and make this Easter more meaningful. Ask yourself if there is something you'd be willing to give up for 40 days (sweets? caffeine? movies? social media?), or ways you can incorporate prayer more (while driving in the car to work or the grocery store), or anything you can give away (make a meal, donate time to clean or help with a chore)?
Remember this season of LENT can be as simple as you'd like (giving up coffee) or as involved as you'd like!
