Quake City Quakers - Christchurch NZ

Quake City Quakers - Christchurch NZ We offer a meeting place for spiritual seekers who are looking for a group of kindred folk. Have you seen our Centre at 217 Ferry Road, and wondered what we do?

No dogma - but we believe in that of God in everyone and like the spices of life - Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, Sustainability. You are welcome to join our weekly Meeting for Worship on Sundays at 10.30am. Quakerism is a spiritual pathway for the 21st Century, despite starting in the 1600's! We don't tell you what to believe, but sit quietly together during our Meetings. For

Quakers, everybody, regardless of race, religion or gender is a spiritual being. We do not have a creed, but most Quakers regard Simplicity,Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship as important values. We have a Children's Meting once a month. Do come and join us on Sunday - we would love to meet you!

𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗺 - 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆?
Christchurch Monthly Meeting Elders are organising an online seminar on this topic on 21st August at 7.00pm with Ben Pink Dandelion.

Ben is Honorary Professor of Quaker Studies at Birmingham University and member of the teaching staff at Woodbrooke. He is a well recognised Quaker scholar with interests which include Quaker history, spirituality, social impact etc. He is author of many publications including ‘Open for Transformation: Being Quaker’, the 2014 Swarthmore Lecture, which is available on YouTube. In his early life, Ben was involved in radical politics before becoming involved with Quakers in the late 80s.

In recent months, Christchurch MM has been conscious of the tensions between Quaker Activism and Spirituality. Ben will discuss the challenges of managing these tensions in a Quaker historical context.

Whilst this webinar was set up initially for Members and Attenders of Christchurch MM, our Elders considered that Friends from throughout Aotearoa might be interested in the topic, so we have decided to invite others to participate. Whether you are from Chch MM or elsewhere, please register for the seminar by 7th August using the online form accessible via this link: https://forms.gle/DoMwR59tN5L2VnVD7.

The Zoom link for the webinar will be sent to Friends who register. We ask Friends to contribute a koha to the YM Website redevelopment fund if they are able to.

Refreshments will be available for Christchurch Friends who choose to join the Zoom Meeting at the Quaker Centre in Ferry Road and who indicate accordingly on the form .

Please contact Michael Winter ([email protected]) (note odd spelling) or 021 225 8620 for more information.

The conscious "I," or the inner observer, which is consciousness itself, has its physical anchor in the “cave” of the brain, between the Pineal gland and Pituitary gland; however, let us be clear: the brain is embedded within consciousness and not the other way around.

When we recognize ourselves as pure consciousness, as a silent space within our mind, a light of recognition lightens up, and we discover, for the first time, the profound difference between the silent and unchangeable nature of our essential nature - the “I” and the changing and impermanent processes of our psychic nature.

This light in the head will gradually become stronger when we nurture the void through the practice of silence, and it will start to reflect more clearly its luminous source in the transcendent world – our nature as Atman, Soul, or Transpersonal Self.
