Linwood Avenue Union Church

Linwood Avenue Union Church Linwood Avenue Union Church is a community-focused church in the heart of Linwood. Our mission is peace and love in our community. All are welcome! We’re busy.

We meet every Sunday for worship at 10:00; feel free to join us!!
Linwood Avenue Union Church is an active, all-age community and we’ll be glad to welcome you to our drop-in centre, worship services and other activities. Worship is at 10 am every Sunday. Our tradition is Methodist – Presbyterian – Christian Churches, but we aim to be a church that people from any or

no church background will feel right at home too! There are many ways of describing the Linwood Avenue Union Church. People are friendly and caring. We are welcoming. We are accepting and supportive. We are an all-age church. We have people in every age group. We’re proud of our ‘oldies’ and our youth, and celebrate camaraderie within an inter-generational church. We are a community church. We belong here. We’ve been in the Bromley – Linwood – Woolston community for nearly 150 years. We are here for the people. Our worship is a mixture of traditional and contemporary, formality and informality. We sing good old hymns and great new songs. The church is very relaxed – but you’ll find we are also very committed to following and serving God, everywhere and every day. We are a multi-cultural and diverse church. We want everyone to feel at home. Our emphasis is on being a community of faith rather than a community where everybody agrees on everything. We are a lively church. Lots of groups and activities – organised and spontaneous. We are outward-looking. Especially through the Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust, we seek to meet the needs of the community – assisting people to become fully independent. The trust employs a family/community worker and two partnership community workers in the health sector. Beyond the parish, we support ministries in Christchurch (such as chaplaincies), nationwide (usually through our denominations) and globally – missions and ministries such as Christian World Service which seeks to lift standards of living for those most in need. To get to know us you really need to meet us. Come along!

Who remembers, last year, when I (Jonathan) encouraged you to write a version of The Lord's Prayer in your own words??? If you did, have you revisited it lately?? If you weren't there or didn't do it, maybe you can (could be a good Lenten practice work on it and recite it every day 😉🤷) !!!

here's mine: (the original can be found in Matthew 6:9-13. It is written as an inclusive/plural prayer, but for this exercise you may find it more meaningful for you to write it in singular/first person, as I have.)

God of all things, I pray that your name and your heart remain holy - set apart to stand out - in my life.
Make your power and beauty a mark that reminds me of your place in my life.
Help me to be a part of your kingdom as it exists - now but not yet - on Earth, that I will see the goodness of Heaven here amongst us now.
Provide me with the sustenance to fill my needs - physically, spiritually, and emotionally - that I can reflect your holy name.
Forgive me of my misdeeds and mess-ups, and help me to forgive others of theirs.
Guide me through temptations and away from all evil, and those who perpetuate it.
You can, because You are my God. Amen.
